So I got this nice job 8 months ago. Nice pay raise and everything but several things have happened recently that make me think I should quit.

The division I work for was sold to another company. My health benefits went up while going to a HSA. My 401k match went down 2.5% so effectively I took a pay cut.

Payroll has been all messed up. They changedvusbto getting paid twice a month from every 2 weeks and my two paychecks in January were late. Deductions were taken out and not sent to the correct accounts etc. It took a month for this all to be sorted out and I was repeatedly told I would be paid x day then that day would come and go and emails were not answered. I feel it was only finally resolved because I stopped coming to work, so they coolant charge the client.

I was told I can only save 40hrs of vacation. So now I need to burn 2 days or lose it. I was hoping to bank a few weeks because I need to contend with possible government shutdowns.

I was told I could work remote 2 days a week after 6 months. I was just told a few weeks ago my position rodent allow for that. There is no reason my job couldnt be 100% remote.

I just had a phone call for a job that pays 50% more and is 100% remote.

Last, and most important, I just went to the mens room and there was a turd on the floor.

I think I am done.

Yes, I think you've successfully answered your own question.

Anything else I can help you with, seeing as I've been so productive?

Based on what you've said, I think it would be a good time to look for another job. However, unless you have a good chunk of savings or something, I would recommend not quitting outright until you have another job locked up.

I woukd not quit until I found a new job.

But can we circle back around to this turd thing? I dont feel we are properly putting the issues into the appropriate perspective and this needs to be discussed more.

Oh also bgg is blocked at this job. Another reason to leave.

I'll just add: Don't let the eight month thing be an impediment. A bad job is a bad job, whether you've been there 8 months, 8 years, or 8 days. Once you've identified a bad working environment (and you have) it's time to extricate yourself from it.

There are oldschool fogeys who would tell you to "just stick it out" until some arbitrary timeline is met, and then maybe look elsewhere. Ignore those people, because they are the ones who have worked miserable jobs for decades out of some misplaced sense of duty or obligation.

I occasionally reveal to people that one of the ways I cut down on my own frivolous spending is to calculate the cost of the thing I'm considering buying by its BGC (Board-game cost), i.e. if the average game costs $45, what percentage of the next game I can buy am I wasting on this coffee or whatever.

That said, I appreciate the burrito cost as a reasonable substitute.

On the other hand, how many burritos are you buying?!

1) Find another job, preferably paying more. Or with better benefits. Or a combo of both.

2) After having found and accepted said job, march into CEO's office and tell him you are quitting unless you take his place, effective immediately.

With the way that place is apparently run, you never know, the CEO might say yes!

When a business gets bought by another company, the main reason for the purchase is so the buying company gets the clients. They do not care about the employees they get and usually get rid of most of them once the switch over has stabilized. They will not honor promises made by the original company you worked for. Go for the new job if they've made you an offer.

One point on which you have been conspicuously silent is whether the turd was already on the floor when you entered the bathroom.

Let's not be too hasty; there are a couple of more charitable--and, frankly, more realistic--explanations.

1. The person was so engrossed in their work that they inadvertently put off going to the bathroom until it was too late. Who among us can honestly say that an unexpectedly locked door and ten unplanned-for seconds of fumbling for keys hasn't led to pooping ourselves on our front porch? As they say, if you don't love your job enough to risk shitting your pants, do you truly love your job at all?

2. In the same way that a good engineering manager deflects problems and takes care of busy-work so that engineers can focus on maximizing shareholder value, a good engineering janitor can help a large team squeeze an extra 20+ man-minutes of incredibly valuable peak productivity out of each day. Only the most elite teams with the very best management support can walk in, poop on the floor, and walk back out; that's the environment where you want to be. Probably the engineering janitor happened to be sick today, or maybe he was busy in the break room, mixing up some bean dip for the team to enjoy.
