We had a situation tonight where someone jumped directly over a space buoy, and it seemed pretty unclear what was required of that ship to then go around it after jumping over it.

What does the yellow ship need to do to fulfill buoy 2?

1) Does jumping over it count as going around it?

2) Does he need to go navigate all the way back to C, as C is the last space he occupied before passing over the buoy?

3) Does he have to make it back to A or B, which gives the appearance that he could go around the buoy from there?

4) Does he have to completely circle the buoy, such as going around the buoy from E to A?

5) Some other option?

I would say option '4)'. But who am I?

In future, count the buoy as an obstacle that you can't hyperdrive through but crash instead.

The real question is "Why is your ship flying sideways?"

Then neither is there an "over" the buoy.

Only because they suck the air out of the room.

Then neither is there an "over" the buoy.

Sure there is, you just warped past the buoy outside the elliptical plane which places you off the specified "race course".

Because your mom flies sideways, and I didn't see any pictures of ships in the orientation I needed.

Fun question. I say 4.

I explain the rules in general in this way...if you traced your full flight with string, then pulled it tight, the string’s gotta hug the sides of the pylons in the correct way.

Having to go all the way around seems the clearest. It just means you should avoid jumping over a buoy pretty much at all costs, as you're most certainly going to lose having to completely circle the buoy afterward.
