Hi everyone,

I'm just looking for some opinions up there about the blocks in the east game vs East front from Columbia.

I am a recent convert to block games and see that both of these games on WW2 Eastern front look good.

Columbia seems to be the incumbent champion with 'East front 2' whereas blocks in the East looks like a worthy challenger.

Any thoughts?

It has been a while since I played either of these (my loss) but in general they use similar combat mechanisms but come from different angles as far as scale and scope. BitE is more of an operational scale strategic game while EF (et al) is a strategic game played in operations.

I think the Front hexes each encompass three to five Blocks hexes??? So more blocks in Blocks than in Front. There is more emphasis on different unit types (you get artillery and air blocks) in Blocks. Supply and productions are more detailed/intricate in Blocks.

both are fun, but they are and play differently, once you get passed "Throw X dice trying to get a Y."

Hi Welshy,

I own both and rate both a "10" on BGG's scale. I have to admit that there's a lot more going on in Blocks and for sheer production values and colour, Blocks edges out EF2.

I note that 'blocks in the east' is out of print at current.

What would be a best alternative blocks in the west? Or blocks in Africa?

Welshy,

If it's not urgent, please get a notification in the page below:

I would NOT recommend buying the others before BitE. (I have them all) In the meantime, I will talk to the designer as his Block Games titles are expanding exponentially.
