“Blitz Bowl is an introductory version of Blood Bowl bearing a 40-minute playing time that’s coming from Games Workshop in 2018.”

Pic from New York toy fair.

Apparently this is an introductory game designed for coaches who don’t have time to play full-on BB, new coaches looking to get into the game, or younger folk who aren’t ready to learn the rules of the main game.

Personally, I like this. It’s a cool idea that will hopefully bring in some new blood to Blood Bowl.

Bummer that it’s Orcs and Humes again, but the team choices obviously make sense for the target demographic.

Only good thing I could see would be...

Some cheap positionals...?

It’s aimed at getting new/young players into the game.

I’d say that’s a good thing.

Absolutely. I'm going to make assumptions about cost and accessibility here, but...

Great for people who want to play BB but know they don't have enough people for a league.
Great for younger players (my daughter is seven and plays 40K with me, but the positional and procedural aspects of BB are beyond her at the moment).
Great for people who want a simpler gaming experience before they decide if they want to go "all in" on the game system.
Great for people who want extra miniatures and dice (although it looks like you only get 6 players per side, so that depends on price).
Great for people who want an easier, pick-up-and-play system between games, or to play while they wait for others to arrive.
Great for people who want to homebrew some rules for jumping down those trapdoors in the main BB arena.

Honestly, I can't see a reason not to like this idea.

This looks great. We already play Blood Bowl, but this might be great for those times we don't have as much time to spare. I wonder if the rules will be different, or just very basic existing rules. I hope the latter as it would be better for my son to have this if he can just use the rules he already knows, albeit simpler, instead of learning different rules.

Either way, still a cool idea for another BB game.

Ratimir called it.
It's just a revamped Kerrunch.
That's fine. Whatever.
Maybe an option for some old school coaches to get extra bits.

Personally, I'm disappointed this new release wasn't a revamped dungeon bowl.

I know this isn't BB related, but this image is also floating around. GW pushing for (and revisiting concepts from) some more entry-level stuff is all good in my book.

I was wondering if this was going to bring Vulkan into 40K. Having the Salamander as the green marine instead of a Dark Angel. Aren't the Necron's suppose to have Vulkan locked up in a museum or something?

I can’t see them putting that kind of lore into the small box games intended for a wider audience.

Oooh, I'm excited about the possibility of a new entry level Space Marine game for my, uh, son. Yeah. For my son. Of course I'm sure I'll have to play it with him.

A 6-3 score? Crazy.

Also looks like 3 stats per player, move, throw and armor, then maybe a special ability at the bottom of their card?

I can dig it.

I’ve been seeing this kind of reaction on the internet. I don’t get it, the old “GW didn’t give me exactly what I want yet, so they suck” kind of tone.

They’ve made an inexpensive game resuming previously created minis in an effort to attract new blood. It’s good for their business and it’s good for the game. I get that you’re a vet and want whatever it is you want, but this isn’t designed for you.

I’ve been playing BB since 89. I’d like a revamped DB, too, but NAF has the rules so grab some tiles and have at it while you wait for GW to get something out in time.

I agree 100%. This is cool.

And...these new entry level games look MUCH better quality than those early 90s attempts (Mighty Warriors, Kerrunch, Ultra Marines, etc)

Looks like you don't get Necron figures with the Space Marine game, and the five miniatures are apparently the ones from that blind bag line they released in Japan. Should be relatively inexpensive, with little legwork for people who don't hobby much.

I'll buy one of each for sure. I'm a bit like that.

Space Marine Adventures looks story driven. There appears to be a card deck that says "open now" and several more that say "do not open." And it looks like there are cards with wedges of flavour text (on top of the token sheets on the first picture).

Ohhhhh. As the saying goes.
