Illusions and Mental knives. It's time for Mirage's Spotlight!

Who is Mirage?

Camilla O'Hare had never exhibited anything special. At all. She was your average Grocer. She did nothing all day but check out people's items and dream of a better life. She and her parents had always wanted more for her. She just never applied herself to anything. It wasn't until a battle between Lightspeed, of the original Phalanx Team, and Wraith reached a fever pitch outside, a device Lightspeed was going to use to stop him erupted in energy! A blast of psionic energy hit Camilla like a brick wall.

When she woke up, she had a new power. She could project herself with her psionic abilities, creating a sort of "mirage" of herself. As she began to hone this, she found out she could make people look where she "was", and take whatever she needed.

She reached too far when she attempted to rob on of HUD City's larger banks, getting into a confrontation with Black Mamba. She was able to escape by manifesting a new power. She was able to conjure short beams, almost blades of psionic energy from her hands, paralyzing Black Mamba in her tracks.

She realized then that she wasn't going to give up anything she wanted, ever. She would rise up and become... THE GREATEST VILLAIN OF ALL TIME!!! She would take whatever she wanted, whenever. As time went on though, she found herself dipping darker and darker into villainy... the depths of how evil she could become was only just being seen.

Mirage's Powers and Traits

So Mirage's stats are actually pretty great. You can see her Health is above average for a standard damage dealer in Alphas, and she has 4 Speed. Her attack though isn't overly powerful and her defense is bad. She does have Invulnerability though, which lowers the effects of Critical Hits and Knock backs.

Traits are where things start getting really fun with Mirage. Infiltration gives her a good step forward to setup those mirages. It also lets her find cover and slam foes for harder! Super Senses will help keep her safe while Wits will help her hit those blows when needed!

So her powers, let's dive in!

Psionic Duplication: This is a Passive that fuels the duplicates Mirage has with her! Not only does it ensure she cannot legally be a target if a Mirage Duplicate could be (this doesn't protect her from Bursts, Sweeps or Sprays though, and when a Duplicate is eliminated, she can safely move away.

How do we know about duplicates? They are found on this part of Mirage's Character Card:

Shadow Step: This Activated Power allows Mirage to have her duplicates attack, then she swaps spaces with 1 of them. This can be a very powerful Travel around the board for her, as well as multiple Basic Attack Actions.

Double Team: The power that lets Mirage drop Duplicates, then hits her target with some powerful dice! using A defense Enhancement will let you drop down 2 of them.

Psy Blade: This is when things get really dangerous. With a great die here, and the chance to add another of it with the Shield Icon Trigger, she can make you discard Enhancements?! A Critical Hit roll means you discard 2 at random? Ouch.

Summary

Mirage can deal a lot of damage, very fast, and with some chess like strategy, she can have her duplicates positioned smart enough to not take attacks, to travel the board. Overall though, if you find yourself losing duplicates constantly, get out as soon as you can since they fuel most of your powers.

Another interesting character.

Is there a limit to the number of Duplicates Mirage can drop down?

Does the game come with Duplicate models? (I guess so?).

If you look at her card examples, yes, she has 3 duplicate models that will come with the game (green ones!), and if you look at the math of the Alpha Miniatures the game comes with 25 but only 20 characters, +2 different titan sizes and +3 duplicate Mirages!

Cool.

Do her rules as written explicitly limit her to 3 Duplicates? Is that done through the set-up guidance, or doe it need to be reinforced? It was something we worked at with Pulp City's self-replicating characters and thinking through how players will interpret things.

Yes, so the final rules say that all resources are considered finite. So if you only have 3 Duplicates, but would place a 4th down, you must remove one of the previous 3 when performing that action. I agree that Super Hero games create a lot of Case and Fringe rules if you aren't careful, so we balanced the number of fringe/case characters like Mirage and Titan with the non-case/fringe, like Bastet, Faultline etc.
