Some pages, like designer and publisher, show a list of games. The default sort is alphabetical. Wouldn't year published (an option in the dropdown) be a more reasonable default? Making the priority alphabetic gives greater attention to "A" names and not the latest items.

Not if you're trying to find a game by name.

Though I would probably prefer year more often than not on the rare occasion I look at such a page.

Alphabetic sort remains an option. I'm just inferring that by default most people probably care about what's been released lately.

So you mean by reverse date, and not by date?

+1 for order by date, -0.5 for reverse date.

Also I would very much like a publisher's page to show the versions by that publisher. I realise this is not trivial.

If i go to a designer or publisher page, i almost always want to see if i know any games of that person. So by far the best order obviously is by rank.

I think a good solution would be if the page remembers the last setting used.
Or if you were able to customize it in your layout manager.

But to be fair: There won't be a change before the front page and the person pages get downgraded to the new design.

The normal scenario for me is that I look at a game by designer X. I wonder who he or she is. I click on the name, and I select rank to see if I know any other games by him or her. So yes, rank it is for me.

Seems to me that no matter which is chosen as default, there will be some audience that might wish it to be otherwise. I could cope with a change but Alphabetical doesn't feel like an unreasonable beginning.

I somehow sense dissonance between those two highlights.

(not that I am offended)

Yes. That is the default when you pick Year Published.

Exactly. If trying to be fair, one would use “changed” rather than “downgraded”.

Wow - that's quite a statement. Based on extensive user research of the entire user base I assume? devil

What would be nice is if settings were remembered (as mentioned above) so that everyone could have their own default.

Actually, now that is has been mentioned again, I realize that I commonly cycle through several sort orders in a viewing. Remembering my "last" would not be any special assistance, and might even be disorienting.

You should have seen his first draft, I didn't even know half the insults, and there were two pages of him just repeating "shit sucks, shit sucks" over and over in there.

Compared to that it's fair.
