If I enter this in the Comments field:

Quote:
Test: <1000
More text.
Even more text.

It will only show:

Quote:
Test:

In other words, it cuts all the text from the < onwards.

Edit: this also happens in the Subject field of a forum. If you enter '<1000' or '"<"' it will cut the text. If you enter '< smaller-than sign' it does work.

It's the less than sign. Avid that and you'll be fine.

A single less-than symbol will permanently trash all subsequent content in a post

Seems like they might not be doing an html encode everywhere. You can use < instead where that happens. It works in the play comments.

He meant: '<', but forgot to escape it.

No html commands can be used in forum posts or any section of the site that uses the forum formatting engine. The problem is that the "less than" and "greater than" signs can be used to enclose javascript which might do wonky things (i.e. hacking) in your browser. To try to thwart hacks BGG takes a very conservative approach to the pair of signs by stripping out everything between the signs. If there is only a less than sign BGG will strip the rest of the content.
