History does not tell when the Demon Spirits first appeared in your world, though it must now be several decades ago. The first reports were ignored as superstition and fairy tales. But once the killing and the panic began there was no denying it.

All soon learned that there was no way to fight them. People were suddenly transformed into murderous madmen, and when they in turn were killed all could see the spirit of a demon leaving the now deceased body, only to enter into another one nearby. It became known that the spirits could move between people and take complete control of them. Some said the demons could slay with a single word.

Mass hysteria ensued. Wherever the spirits wanted to go they went. Wherever they made demands they were met by people too terrified of their power to do anything else. Those who tried to resist were either enslaved themselves, or killed by those who had fear as their new master. Once the Emperor became possessed, all meaningful attempts at resistance were over.

In the next few months all civilization crumbled. Those with enough money and time fled for distant lands, hoping that this scourge would not follow them there. The land was split up between different demons, ruling as they pleased, treating the people like playthings. Some of them would make war on each other for more power, more slaves to command. Others would hunt innocents for sport. And no one knew of a way to harm them.

Then came hope. Out of seclusion they came, holy men and women. They sought out the arrogant demons, who were certain that they were beyond the reach of any mortal hand. The people of Faith then performed a ritual they had divined to drive out the demon spirit, utterly destroying the abomination. The warnings about this threat to their existence did not reach most of the tyrants, and so they were destroyed before they knew their own peril.

Once the remaining spirits understood what was happening they did everything they could to eradicate the threat. Those still in power started wars against the Faith, and Brothers and Sisters across the land were murdered. In other parts the people gained new hope when the rumors reached them of the death of the spirits. Mass uprisings led to massive blood baths as the spirits took out their vengeance on the ordinary people who did not have any kind of defence against the power of the demons.

Now the lands are in tatters. The holy people are locked in a deadly struggle with these immortal demons, who will stop at nothing to wipe out the knowledge of the cleansing ritual. The Faith itself has become the prime target for possession, murdering their own and burning down monasteries. While this tactic was successful at first, the Faith soon became wary of any signs of possession amongst themselves, and keep a watchful vigil at all times…

The countryside is burning, very few villages are still safe here. You travel towards the nearest monastery, for safety, for hope, to gather strength and to find a new direction.

Arriving from different parts you gather at one of the way stations that the faith tries to keep around here, to find guides that could allow you passage into the fortress of the holy. And you are in luck, a small group of the faithful are here, ready to help. You are set to leave at first light, but dawns brings more than just the start of your journey...

What is this?

Hidden roles.
Thematic.
15 players.
Two teams, good/evil. The number of each is unknown.
Four players start the game as the Faithful - publicly known, but this does not guarantee that they are Good.
Reveal is Demon spirit / not Demon spirit
LHLV as tiebreaker
Conversion will be possible.

Evil VC: at least 1 Spirit is alive and unbound at the end of D8.
Good VC: prevent Evil VC.

The game will run for 8 days (unless it ends early).
Takes place in the universe of the demon spirits. It could be helpful to read the previous game (but not at all neccessary).

Rules for this game:

The cleansing ritual:
The player with the most votes at the end of the day is subjected to the ritual, killing that player. This is the only known way to actually destroy a demon.

The preparations take a full day, and can only be done by the faithful. If only 1 faithful is left to do the preparations it can only be performed every other day. The single faithful can perform it on the first evening of being alone. Should there be no faithful then the ritual can not be performed.

If there is only 1 faithful and the vote lands on that person no one will be killed (i.e. they can not perform the ritual on themselves).

Bound players:
Any player that receives 3 or more votes in the final tally will be bound until next dusk (apart from any player killed by the cleansing ritual).

A bound player is limited in possible actions and their vote counts as 0 for determining who is subjected to the ritual, but as normal for tying players up. Any faithful bound can not take part in preparing the cleansing ritual.

Please note how this matters to Victory conditions.

Forming the line:
While traveling the players are tied together in a line. The order will be the same as the order of players as organized by Cassandra. At night the last player is considered adjacent to the first. When players are killed they are removed from the list when considering adjacency. This could be relevant to actions or in game effects.

Public actions:
There will be at least one player with a power that is activated by posting a quote into the game thread. When this happens you must all follow the rules of that power in the same manner is if the moderator had posted it. The quote will look something like this:

Quote:
This player has the power to blot out the sun.
If this is posted during the night then dawn will be immediately followed by dusk with no voting in between. This new longer night will last until the normal time for next dawn.

If this is posted during the day then all votes will be nightfallen 5 minutes after this post was made.

Ignore this power if the sun has been blotted out previously in this game.


No player in this game will have the power to blot out the sun.

Some specifics:

On participation:
I expect everyone to add their thoughts to the game, each day. As it is a hidden roles game there will be even more things to figure out, which means that your participation is crucial to your team (as always in werewolf..)

You do not have to post for your life, but at least something each day. If you know that you will have a hard time showing up during one day, please let me know in Modchat.

Conditional orders:
I'm happy to accept them. So if you know that you might not be around during night (or whenever your power goes off) please state in Modchat how you would like to act, depending on the situation.

Example: "If spelledaren is lynched, view Belash. Otherwise view spelledaren." This is a valid conditional order.

If you fail to enter a valid order in time your action will be forfeited, not entered with a random target.

Modchat:
There will be both flavour texts and other things in your Modchat. Do not quote these into the game thread, or otherwise try to cheat the system to see what other players' modchats say about them. You can of course discuss the flavour given therein, and the name and effect of your power, should you have any.

Nightfalling:
Is acceptable. I might move up lynch if the deal is done. I might not. Maybe someone still has powers to use?

No lynch:
Is not allowed in this game.

Tone:
I expect everyone to behave cordially. If you clearly go out of line in your behaviour towards others you will be warned and if it continues you will be Modkilled. I have no problem with aggressive behaviour to provoke responses, but insults or other things that are designed to hurt people are never acceptable.

Communication:

Talking about the game with other players is done in the game thread or in your chat room(s).

So what do you know?

The Order has kept books on their battles against the spirits, and have amassed quite a lot of information on the nature of the threat. The spirits seem to have powers beyond possession, you know for sure that they have killed people without needing to resort to physical violence. Other, less direct powers have also been noted.

What is perhaps even more interesting are the blessings of the Gods that the Order recieves. When in the presence of the Spirits some of the brethren are always granted some abilities to help them combat their foe. These blessings have come in a vast variety of types. The only thing that is always granted is the ability to divine the infestation of a Spirit in the soul of another. But the power granted is never known before actually encountering the monsters, and can be different for the same person if they live to fight more than one battle.

For game purposes this means that a seer will be present, and most likely some other types of powers as well. The Spirits will have a power to kill, and most likely some other powers as well.

You also know that once a Spirit has attached itself to a soul it can not leave volontarily. They also seem to have a hard time killing themselves to go free. This is the main reason to shun physical violence, as killing the host body lets the demons free to possess someone else.

The cleansing ritual takes a full day to prepare, and only 1 person can be subjected to it. The soul of anyone subjected to it will be purged from the body and utterly destroyed. This will kill a Spirit, but will also kill anyone who is not possessed. Choose your victims with care...

The procession of the possessed is the name the Order uses for when they are traveling with a Demon somewhere in their ranks. They have set up rules and safeguards for what to do, in hopes of making it as hard as possible for the demons to take advantage.

A sign is raised and carried in front, signaling to all others that they must keep their distance. A procession of the possessed will turn away all comers, and let no one already in their group leave. Anyone disrespecting this rule loses the support of the Order for all time. For they travel towards the nearest monastery where the brethren will gain support and be able to root out any demons that may still be among them.

All weapons are discarded, and each person is tied to the next with a long rope, in a random order. This makes it harder to reach others, if anyone would seek to do physical harm. At night the procession seeks out groves of trees, where they can form a circle with trees in the middle. Still bound to each other, and with the last person bound to the first, no one can leave without others noticing.

Each day the ritual will be performed if possible, the victim chosen by vote. The order lets all in the procession vote, as everyone's life depends on it, and no one knows who could be possessed. Those under most suspicion are bound more tightly, limiting their freedom for the following day. Their vote is disregarded for the following ritual, but listened to when considering binding anyone. Having bound members walking along makes it harder to keep the pace, so not too many can be bound at the same time.

A month to go and the game is full. Great!

This will start with a long N0 on Monday 16th of July, with D1 ending on Tuesday. The game will last, at the longest, until dusk on D8, which then is Thursday the 26th.

Some will have choices to make on N0, so please be ready that Monday to see whatever could pop up in Cassandra.

The Cassandra Automatic Vote Tally System

Your Moderator has enabled the Cassandra Automatic Vote Tally system
for this game. In order for it to function correctly, your votes will
need to be formatted correctly. The following rules will explain what
you will need to do:

Players
1. All votes must be bolded

2. The entire vote statement must be bolded and enclosed in brackets:
[vote jmilum]

3. If your game allows, and you [vote nightfall] your vote will
be locked. Your moderator may have disabled nightfall votes.

4. Vote tallies will be automatically posted to the game thread
regularly if the tally has changed. The Tally and Vote Logs (for each
game day) are also available on the Cassandra game page.

5. If your vote is not counted be sure to check the Vote Log page and
see if it was marked invalid and why.

6. Case does not matter and simple typos will not cause the vote to fail.

7. You may [vote no lynch] if your game allows it.

8. Non voting players will be listed in the tallies. This will only be
correct if the Moderator notes which players have been killed (see below)

9. Editing a vote post will invalidate the vote and it will not be counted.


Moderators
1. The moderator will need to post [Dawn] when the day begins
(after the night results are posted) and [Dusk] when the lynch
deadline has passed and the day is over. Votes will not be counted
after [Dusk] has been posted. They will be registered again
after [Dawn] is next posted.

2. You may include a day number in the dawn and dusk post for
informational purposes, but it will not be used by the system.
Cassandra will increment an internal counter each time it sees
[Dawn] no matter what day is shown in a dawn post (i.e.
[Dawn 3] the three is allowed but ignored)

3. After dusk has been posted, the Moderator may go to the game page
on Cassandra to request a Final Tally to be posted before the normal
scan period has elapsed (i.e. Game Y gets scanned at 45 min. after the
hour, if it lynches at 7pm the moderator may request a tally to be
posted from the game page before 7:45pm. it will also be posted
regardless of whether or not it has been changed since the last
posting) - Do this by clicking on the 'Force Vote Tally' link.

4. You will need to note which players were killed via the lynch or at night by
either posting [killed jmilum] in the thread, or by going to the game
page and editing the player list. When posting in the thread, be sure to post
[dusk] before posting the lynch kill, and post [dawn] before
posting the night kill.
Example:
A. lynch time has passed so post [dusk]
B. goto the game page and select a final tally to be posted
C. check the final tally and post [killed melsana]
D. after the night deadline has passed post [dawn]
E. post the night kill with [killed kima]

Your Moderator has chosen to use the Longest Held Last Vote method for a tiebreaker - This is just for Cassandra system, and there may be a different tiebreaker specified by your Moderator in the ruleset.

Lems, I'm not sure why it does, beyond culture and convention. I guess the main difference would be if there are n0 actions to affect?

I don't play a ton of WW anymore though, so more talking time with you fine folk sounded nice. heart
