Is there any lore for this game that perhaps better explains the various clans, their philosophies/history, why the hell the turtle clan people look like Orcs, etc.?

Would be fascinating to know more...

Anyone have ideas of their own? Maybe fans should start a collaborative lore project...

The Dragonfly clan was established and grew out of a deep competitive nature that continues to this day...fast on their feet and always on the ball.

Turtle Clan

The Turtle clan were one of the most honourable, located in central Japan, near one of the largest areas of the Blight, the terrible wasteland where Oni stalk their human prey in permanent twilight. A blood red sky holds sway over fields of ash and bone. Over the years, the Blight spread into the surrounding lands, tainting crops, the animals and in time, the young. The children of the Turtle clan started to be born with the Mark of the Oni. Faces twisted, bestial fangs and horns, many a mother died in childbirth or soon after, wracked with shame. Still, the Turtle clan would not abandon their duty to guard the borderlands of the Blight, and to this day they serve as a living reminder of the cost of Duty.

As explained by the Firesign Theater, “Before the beginning, there was this turtle. And the turtle was alone. And he looked around, and he saw his neighbor, which was his mother. And he lay down on top of his neighbor, and behold! she bore him in tears an oak tree, which grew all day and then fell over -- like a bridge. And lo! under the bridge there came a catfish. And he was very big. And he was walking. And he was the biggest he had seen. And so were the fiery balls of this fish, one of which is the sun, and the other, they called the moon.” And so, the origins of the Turtle Clan reach way back.
