Are there any games that play similar to Mahjong but are not actually Mahjong?
Thank you

This is probably not what you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention that Mhing is Mahjong with cards instead of tiles.

Mahjong is basically a form of Rummy. There are a lot of traditional card games in that family that will feel similar to Mahjong. http://www.pagat.com is a great resource for traditional card game rules.

Dragon Castle borrows heavily from Mahjong, but it lacks the difficulty, bacause you can also take only one tile.
Still, it has the tiles.

Sorry, Dragon Castle plays not even remotely similar to Mahjong. It's inspired by the solitaire game using Mahjong tiles, and feels similar to that.

Agree with Jim Bolland, above. However without knowing your intention, it is hard to make sensible suggestions. All Green might be interesting to you, it's basically Mahjong light as a card game.

I believe Dragon Castle doesn't have a full set, though.

Yes. Whether you mean real mahjong or pretend mahjong, the answer is yes.

I think you know that the OP was not looking for a simple one word answer but an actual recommendation. angry

I'm interested too as Mahjong is the only game my husband will play and we just don't have time for it now with kids.

When I played Rummy with my family it reminded me of Mahjong. But I felt it's nowhere near as interesting unfortunately.

I looked at Dragon Castle but could not bear to watch through a play-through. Whatever solitaire Mahjong is it's not Mahjong!

Lots of Rummy Games and Set Collection games, if you mean the physical game.

Gang of Four is another card game version of mahjong, that plays quicker because you don't need all the set-up time.

You might also like the Japanese game Hanafuda, which is much less rummy-like, but has some similarities, e.g. flower bonuses. The cards look very pretty and oriental too, so that might appeal if your husband likes the design of the mahjong tiles.
