Hey guys so I wanna start up Sri Lanka's first board game cafe. I was just wondering what kind of starting games library I should have. Anyone who has started up a board games cafe or works there please do share your experiences and how you guys chose your starting library of games.

For example how big should my starting library of games be? What games should it include? What types of games should it include (e.g party, strategy, wargames, family)?

Obviously as time goes on I would like to have a huge collection of games, but to start off with I wanna know how you guys picked the games.

Here the truceless armies yet / Trample, rolled in blood and sweat; / They kill and kill and never die; / And I think that each is I. // None will part us, none undo / The knot that makes one flesh of two, /
badge
Sick with hatred, sick with pain, / Strangling -- When shall we be slain? // When shall I be dead and rid / Of the wrong my father did? / How long, how long, till spade and hearse / Puts to sleep my mother's curse?

You could contact 3 Boardgame Cafe's, in Berkeley and San Francisco, California, and also one in Manhattan, New York City.

1. Victory Point Cafe (Berkeley)

2. The Game Parlour (San Francisco)

3. The Uncommons (New York City)

They might have some good ideas for which games are played the most there and which games people have requested. You can also ask them if they know of any publishers who might be willing to donate any games to your game library.

Best of luck to you, please tell us more about your establishment!

My local board game cafe opened around this time last year with about 250 games, and have been steadily adding to their collection since.

I don't think this list is up to date, but it's pretty much what they started with: http://www.abbyboardwalk.com/games

Thanks for this info! I will definitely get in touch with these cafe's.

I am still in the early stages of planning this and I am still trying to wrap my head around it! I am super excited about it and I've got loads of positive feedback and people seem excited about the idea and the opening of the cafe! It would be the first of them in Sri Lanka so hopefully people love it!

My main reason behind starting this is because in the heart of Colombo, young millennials have absolutely nothing to do in terms of bonding with friends and family. I feel like it would be an amazing way to bring people together in a really unique way and give the youth in Sri Lanka a way to escape and have fun in a safe place!
Eventually I would love to host events for youth with illnesses and disabled kids and youth who are less fortunate and give them a place to have fun and have a good time.
