When I first started playing board games I desperately wanted a board game about microbiology or cell biology, but there were no decent ones out there. And then suddenly a whole bunch came out, like Cytosis and Pathogenesis, and I was at peace.
Are there any themes you desperately want a board game of, but that are terribly neglected?

There was a thread a couple of weeks that I responded and my list is about the same though how I would work the theme would be very different now. From my previous post with some alterations:

Orphan Black in a box in the form of Days of Ire: Budapest 1956 the Hungarians would now be Clone Club and the Soviets would be The Neolutionists.

I always want more dog games. The ratio of cat to dog games confuses me.

More diesel punk, steam is so 1991.

An independent superhero game (ie Image, Top Cow ect) hopefully none of them are deck builders however.

Anachronism done right. *Sigh*

Ballet, figure skating or gymnastics, I think that would be interesting for a lot of people

Any sports game from the coach's perspective. You place workers that are your players for example.

Lice Shower, I know Dr. Shark exists but it's not played in the dark

This could be me but I think a cooperative handmaiden game where you have to help with the princess's issues could be fun. Sanitized theme or not.

Yacht racing. There have been hardly any decent ones for that since Regatta, and that game is ancient (1967). More recent games on the theme have been very limited in distribution. It would be interesting to see a modern board game take on this theme.

I hadn't considered this theme but now I want it. You can approach it from a lot of angles. The angle I like is every player could be a different coach training a team and later your teams could actually compete in a tournament against each other.

I'd really like to see a superhero game that handles the secret identity side of things, not just the costumed side.

On the ZX Spectrum there was a game called "Boxing Manager" that was quite fun. You had to arrange bouts for your boxers, organise their training regimes, and then give them instructions for how to box (inside/outside, fight dirty, and so on).

This may just be me, but I really feel we need more games about farming, and trains. I feel it's a theme area that could really be expanded on in boardgaming, but is frustratingly anaemic...

With the Winter Olympics just gone, I was surprised that there don't seem to be many games themed on winter sports.

I'd love to see a good snowboard cross / ski cross game.

This got the gears turning for me.

There are people robbing the bank, but that paperwork has to be on the boss' desk by 5!

I don't have any movement powers and the battle is too far away for me to drive with no gas money.

Do I skip out on the anniversary dinner and risk my marriage just to save the city, again?

Quick, someone with more free-time get on this.

I can't think of any that aren't logic puzzles. I'd be curious to see something competitive.

Six months ago, I would have said Police themes. Now that's exploding with tons of detective ones, and Brook City going a bit more action movie.

I have eaten some Netrunner counters, a treasure token from Nemo's War, and a First Martians condition token. Also maybe a Fallout "L" token.

Blood Bowl Team Manager does this. I'm not a football (or Blood Bowl) fan but I enjoy this different take.

Hi there,

There was a thread similar to this a few weeks ago and my theme-of-choice is the deep ocean; not so much resource acquisition (e.g. Otys and in a simpler press-your-luck vein, Deep Sea Adventure) but the living world. So, thinking about taking a research vessel to investigate species, or maybe a sort of Evolution game but adding lures, bioluminescence, fangs etc. Or both

Marching Band (a favorite hobby of mine) but honestly, how would that even look? Music related board games seem to be lame at best.

Nope - I play games for mechanics, not theme.

+1 for the gymnastics/figure skating/... suggestion, hopefully a game will include both development of team members' skills and more than one competitive meet up where a figure skating run or a steady rings run (or any other sort of runs with multiple figures) must be presented.

I have always wanted to see a game about pro-wrestling, from the promoter's point of view. Having to hire and train talent and book matches to fit with a crowd's desires - if you run a town with a brutal cage match, the next person to follow has to try and top this, but could end up injuring their top star and losing money in the long run.

Could set it in the territory heydays of the 1970s and 80s, perhaps in a Circus Train style.
