I have a question about MTW (which I've been thoroughly enjoying BTW - just had my first win this week):
How were the (British) ground unit strengths arrived at? Are they arbitrary, or based upon historical data? 2 Para is strength 5, for instance, but 3 Para only 4; 45 Commando is a 6, and 40 Commando a 4.
I imagine some of these figures are contextual in that they're based upon a given unit's efficacy in the Falklands conflict itself; the Blues and Royals, for instance, would only be a very light armoured reconnaissance force in the BAOR, but given the general absence of AFVs in the Falklands, they become a very handy armoured unit. I was also very interested to learn about the lack of effectiveness of artillery in the war (except in the mountains) - I've read a fair bit about the conflict, but hadn't come across this.
Overall, congratulations on a splendid game.

I no longer have my notes as to how each unit was evaluated, but they were all eyeballed based on my reading about the conflict. A number of sources mention the relative ineffectiveness of artillery in the soggy terrain (as explained in the game itself) and how this changed dramatically in the stony hills outside Stanley. Again, I don't have specific notes on this (alas!) but it was something that was emphasized repeatedly in the sources I relied on for my research.
