I like the various metals in the first crown, it stands out more to me than the second crown on the star field.

I think the first would look better without the black ring around it (not sure if that's just part of the export or part of the image itself).

You know, either of these would look great as a metal coin. Hint, hint.

I like both, but with the premise of using cardboard coins I'd definitely pick number two. The black ring contrast really makes it pop.

Another backer on the KS campaign pointed out that the second option may have a first-glance similarity to the control tokens. I can kinda see it.

That similarity is intentional, in the world of Imperius the ruling family of the Empire of the Dawn is in a sense it's own faction. The token that is ultimately chosen will be solidified in the lore as the mark of the emperors favor.

As far as any possible confusion, there is only 1 first player token where as each faction has 9 tokens with their house iconography, additionally the first player token is larger in size than the player components.

I wish a stretch goal for component upgrades for the tokens to be plastic than cardboard

Hmm, my favourite -- the silver token on top -- is behind.

Ah well, the other one looks fine, too.

I actually by far prefer cardboard tokens with nice art to cheap plastic.

Still too samey for me, intentional or not, but I guess if most people prefer it that's what it will be.

or give the star a black trim and print it on a golden token (plastic or metal)

Just sayin', but the top choice would make the better coin, minus the black border.
