THE REIGN OF PEI HAS ENDED: 2017 Sportsman of the Year Michael Dauer earned his second award of the year becoming the 2017 Caesar award winner also. Mike leveraged his abilities in CDG games Here I Stand, The Napoleonic Wars, and POG at both WBC and PBeM to win one of the closest races in history, defeating Richard Meyer by 4 laurels. Richard earned all of his laurels at WBC and claimed the 2017 Consul award for best WBC performance. The rest of the top 6 Caesar finishers were Nick Henning, Bert Schoose, James Pei for an eleventh straight top 25 appearance, and Ricky Boyes. MEMBERSHIP RATE INCREASE: The BPA annual membership drive continues but prices will increase on April 1, 2018. If you still want to get the lower rates, you must complete and submit the online application at and submit payment via Paypal or check. To receive the price before it increases, the form and the payment must be submitted before April 1 (Paypal payment sent or check postmarked before April 1, 2018). A list of the membership as of March 28, 2018 can be found at . Only those members who have completed the membership form and submitted payment are on the list. NEED A FEW GM’s FOR 2018: Thanks to everyone who submitted forms by March 15. All Century, Legacy, and Trial events have GMs as of March 15. We still have a few vendor sponsored events that could use a volunteer to GM their tournaments. The games are Broadhorns (RGG), Conflict of Heroes (Academy), Epoch (RGG), Quartermaster General (Griggling), Spearpoint 1943 (CEW), and Transatlantic (RGG). If you are interested and willing to GM one of these for our vendors, please contact me at . Crystal is still looking for some GM’s for the juniors room also. EVENT REPORTS: The event reports for WBC 2017 have been completed and can be found at . Thirteen percent of the associated laurel pages for each event are now complete. The rest of the laurel pages are in progress. Further updates will be provided on the home page and in future newsletters.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS VOTING OPEN: Seven Members appear on the ballot for election to a three year term on the BPA Board of Directors. The slate features three incumbents and four challengers. The list of candidates and their statement can be found at . The voting for the Board of Directors candidates is now opened. Members are encouraged to vote on who you believe would be the best candidates on your BPA Board of Directors. Voting will end on June 1, 2018 and winners will be announced at the BPA Annual Meeting on Tuesday July 24 at 3pm in the Grand Ballroom at Seven Springs. Coting is easy with an online ballot which can be found at .

MENZEL WINS WATERLOO TOURNAMENT: Ed Menzel defeated last year’s champion, Marty Musella. Ed took the PAA with a bid of 6 and Marty’s French took heavy losses on the 7am turn of the second day at which point Marty conceded. There were 18 entrants in the tournament and the top six finishers in order were Ed Menzel, Marty Musella, Joe Beard, Bert Schoose, Richard Beyma and Gary Dickson. BPA MARCH MADNESS PBeM UPDATE: As the real NCAA tournament gets ready for the Final Four, our March Madness tournament is in the last game of the Sweet Sixteen. Only one game remains unfinished in the third round, as Jeff Finkeldey and Terry Coleman are battling for the final spot in the Sweet Sixteen. In Bracket A, 11th seeded Sean McCulloch, Cincinnati 2004, and 13th seeded Marvin Birnbaum, Kansas 2008, are already in the Elite Eight. In Bracket B, top seeded Bob Hamel, Maryland 2002, and 25th seeded Max Jamelli, Kansas 2010 are in the Elite Eight. For the bracket for this year, see

SIGN-UPS FOR NEXT WATERLOO PBeM OPEN: The Waterloo 2018-19 email tournament will start on June 1, 2018. Contact GM Ed Menzel at to sign up. It will be single elimination with auction bidding for sides. Rules and rule clarifications will be the same as the last two tournaments with one exception. The Wissel brigade’s arrival will be delayed until the 18-0700 turn in accordance with the change for this year’s WBC. Round lengths will be 10 weeks. All players must be current members of the BPA. Others may qualify with a $10 Email membership in the year the event starts.
All multi-day paid attendees to WBC are current BPA members for the balance of that calendar year.


BPA members who would like to see an email tournament for their favorite game are encouraged to step forward as the GM of such an event. BPA does not run tournaments. Rather, we are an organization of gamers lending support to one another so such events can happen. No one cares as much about your hobby as you do. Get involved.
