Dave generally does well with the scientist, I'm still a believer in the 4th cadet. Who's your favourite starting specialist?

1. Scientist
2. Engineer
3. Agent 2/6
4. Agent 1/4
5. Pilot
6. Cadet (actually removed her from the set of starting employees)

Not quite sure if I´d put the pilot over the agents... but usually I prefer getting more money at the start of the game over +1 transport.

What makes you prefer the cadet over, lets say the Agent 1/4? Same wage but less skills...

There's something to be said for the neatness of moving three items in a single action when you have a fleet capacity of three, but I see your point.

Interesting that you'd take the cadet out. What prompted you to do that? I've found it pushes me to going a little bit cheaper and maintaining an inexpensive last place. This can work well with a strategy of keeping some ore in your storage depot to sell on the last turn, preserving your position in the turn order because you can afford to earn a little less than the other players.

Let me first say, that I usually have at least a couple of new players at the table. So we (unfortunately) rarely have the same group that dives really deep into one game with several plays. So such advanced strategies like constantly staying behind to win happen rarely.

So I teach the game, everyone‘s excited. Each player gets 3 starting employees and one random special guy. We reveal, everyone reads out what his specialist can do, and then there is this one player who drew a specialist that just doesn‘t have any specialties

You can try to save the mood by arguing with wages, but there‘s at least one other specialist with special abilities, that has the same low wage. Fair?
So guess, who‘s gonna be disappointed and starts to curse his bad luck (or the game) before the game even started.

I usually want to avoid those situations in my gaming evenings, that‘s why I removed the card.

Hooe that makes sense...

Huh, that totally makes sense.

If you were ever tempted to put the cadet back in... Then when someone drew the cadet I'd tell them the fourth cadet's special ability is to hire first, move first, and have first choice of asteroid.

But I can see how that wouldn't feel as cool as getting a scientist 100% better than everyone else's. Perhaps in future revisions we'll put something on the card about going first.

This is not his ability in his current version. It´s a game rule, that the player who has least points / wages goes first. And it´s not guaranteed and permament to the player who owns the 4th cadet. All other employee´s abilities are.

Good idea. If this is going to be added as permament ability, I´d definitely pay higher wages for this guy than 1
