The bandits have taken over the factory!

This is a simple rule variant to spice up the fight over the factory.

At the start of the game, bandits have control of the factory tile and the three land tiles adjacent to the factory. In order to reach the factory, you must drive off the bandits!

Take the four trap tokens from the Togawa Shogunate faction, shuffle them, and place them face down on the factory and the land tiles adjacent to the factory. They now represent bandit camps! The bandit controlled territories are considered to be occupied by enemy combat units when considering movement rules- you can only move into them when accompanied by a combat unit, and combat happens upon moving into the tile.

Upon entering a bandit controlled territory, treat it like engaging in combat with another player. First, the movement for that unit stops, and you flip the token over. In order to defeat the bandits, you must match the number displayed on the token with a combination of combat cards and power spent (ignore the pictures on the tokens and the minus sign). If you do not have enough power/cards, you lose and your unit is sent back to your home base! However, you do not gain the bonus combat card for losing while spending at least 1 power.

Upon winning, you pillage the bandit camp! Draw an encounter card, and gain whatever bonus the first option states.

Also, if you manage to clear three of the four bandit camps, you gain a combat star! Keep track by collecting the tokens.

Also, all faction abilities pertaining to combat apply to fighting bandits! However, the Crimea SCOUT mech ability does not apply, as the bandits do not have combat cards.

Also, if you feel the Rusviet TOWNSHIP mech ability is too strong: If the land territory adjacent to the factory that is closest to the Rusviet home base is still occupied by bandits, the Rusviet player must move to this territory first using the TOWNSHIP ability. Once this territory is cleared of bandits, the TOWNSHIP ability works as usual.

And thats it!
