Will play any game... especially for wine or espresso.
An Australian in Africa.
Brian, Alan, Richard & Duncan started this, then Donna turned up at 7.30 so we restarted (with a slightly better distribution of gold-bearing mountains).
I'd only played La Citta before with 4 players. The game gets very vicious with 5 players. Space becomes very
limited quite early, its easy to get hemmed in and citizens do a lot of migrating.
Brian played a fairly straight game resulting in 3 well developed cities.
Donna struggled for citizens in the middle game, but had started her first city between 2 mountains and the second between a 2 food tile & 3 food tile. This gave her ample resources to do well later.
Duncan ended with 2 small "farm cities" on the outskirts of the board providing the food for a densely populated anaconda which pulled citizens out of 5 other cities for a few turns.
Richard's best starting city got hemmed in early by the anaconda.
Alan had one city unable to reach water (and hence grow beyond 8), but the second eventually did well.
Approximate final scores:
Brian 32 (9 bonus for 3 well-developed cities)
Duncan & Donna 29 (3 bonus for Duncan, 6 bonus for Donna)
Richard 25 (6 bonus)
Alan 22 (6 bonus for cities, but -5 for failing to feed his people on the last turn.)
Gotta watch out for the unexpected influx of migrants on the last turn!
