The rules state to check for attrition the moment you drop off a unit.

How does this work?

We played it as follows:

Dropping off Sp along the way of a March triggers an immediate additional attrition check, you roll and check against all moving units i.e. not just the dropped off unit, nor just the continuing units, but the full combined stack pre-drop-off.

This special attrition roll doesn't take the place of a normal attrition roll, so if the rest of the stack keeps moving after a drop-off then they will have to check for attrition at the end of that march even though they checked previously during a drop-off, though this final check will be against a smaller stack (since you dropped off along the way)

That right?

Only the unit dropped off checks. The rest of the stack can keep going and check when it stops.
