I live in Asheville, NC and have a couple of groups to play games with. In addition there are a game store and game cafe in town that both host game nights for anyone looking to play.

I have played a few games with my 13 year old niece (one night werewolf, love letter, coup) and she is very excited to play more, but her parents and friends aren't. I'm planning on running a 5e one shot during our family vacation this summer. She is pretty quick picking up rules and strategy, but needs someone there to play with.

I noticed that The Enchanted Badger had a game night on Tuesdays, but it seems to have closed last fall.

Does anyone know of any suitable groups in the Ithaca, NY area to help a new gamer get started?

Thanks in advance!

Great Escape Adventures is a good sizeable game store that has a game room, gaming and tournaments. The original location is in Horseheads, Arnot Mall, but they now have a 2nd location open in the Ithaca Mall too.

That is fair and done, though I was also depending on the northeast region to scope it as well.

Thanks! I wouldn't have thought to look at escape rooms for game night.

There is a game night on Fridays at Cornell (open to the community). You can subscribe to the mailing list to get info about rooms for the different semesters.

GSH= Goldwin Smith

The people there were always nice, a range of younger and older people. You could check if there's an age minimum. There are also game groups (including RPG groups) that spring up from posts on that list.

Quote:
For Spring 2018 the following rooms are reserved for Games Club from 7 PM to midnight:
January 26 - May 4: GSH 160,162,164 (small tables!)
January 19 is rush week and the rooms may be dicey but they often are done by 7 lately.
After May 4 there might be finals.
There are no reserved rooms for spring break on April 6 but also basically nobody's here.

This message was sent to the gamers-l@cornell.edu mailing list, operated by the Games Club at Cornell.

For Magic: the Gathering at Cornell, check out their sub-list at https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!forum/cornell-...

For list information, including unsubscription instructions, please visit http://orgsync.rso.cornell.edu/org/gamesclub/MailingList

When we were in Ithaca, we would make the trip up to Millennium Games in Rochester (might not be possible in this case).

There is a game group that meets every Thursday night 6:30-10:30 in Ithaca. Check out this FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1595553403992581/

Already mentioned, there is a games club at Cornell: http://orgsync.rso.cornell.edu/org/gamesclub/

Also already mentioned, there is the relatively new "Great Escape" board games shop in the Arnot Mall.

If your niece makes it down to the Binghamton area (about 50 minutes drive), we have an active game group that meets Monday nights (and various Saturdays): https://www.facebook.com/groups/BinghamtonAreaTabletopSociet...
https://www.meetup.com/binghamton-area-tabletop-society/

And a wonderful game shop in the Binghamton area that is focused on M:TG and Warhammer (it's where the money is), but also has a great board game selection and open play board game nights on Fridays: https://jupitergames.info/store/

There are also good options in the immediate ares of Syracuse, Rochester, and Cortland, but I think that she'll find plenty of gaming in Ithaca.
