I'm looking for recommendation of a board game about cars/automobiles. If it doesn't involve a lot of luck or dice, that would be a bonus. If it also has playtime of under an hour that would be even better!

I was hoping to not be aimed at kids if that can be helped. It's mainly to play with some guys at work during lunch break.

Thanks!

Kraftwagen does end up playing shorter than most expect. But I would recommend planning on just a partial game the first time when you learn it. Some pre-planning organization to help cut out set-up time would help too.

Formula D might work for you. Admittedly it can run longer than an hour but if everyone is obsessive about it you can keep a game pretty tight. While there are dice involved, my limited experience with the game makes it about strategy more than luck.

edit: also, you can go the lighter route and just play a lot of Mille Bornes

I favor Euros, but I like pretty much all games.

I don't think a 2+ hour roll and move game that depends almost entirely on dice luck qualifies.

Under an hour is tough, but Automobiles could work. You can adjust the number of laps.

It's essentially a deck builder, with cubes instead of cards. Some luck in the draw from your bag, of course, but you choose what to buy.

If it becomes a regular thing for you, the expansion adds rules for a season.

Maybe I haven't played it enough, but my experience didn't make it that long, nor that lucky. While dice does play a part, I found the lane changes and positioning of the car required some strategy. Again, I could be wrong.

Downforce ?
Or if you fancied a miniatures car combat game using die-cast toy cars, maybe Gaslands ? (Long shot!)

I definitely second Kraftwagen and Automobiles mentioned above. I would also highly recommend Downforce as a great option!

Automobiles is pretty great. It won't be under an hour without a lot of practice, though.

Thanks chaps. So it seems that Downforce and Automobiles may be worth a try! If anyone else has any more suggestions, I'm all ears!

Formula Motor Racing is a racing game played with just cards and a line of car miniatures. A race takes about 15-20 minutes, and you'd typically play 2-3 races in a session.

Rallyman uses dice, but it's push-your-luck so you have more control over the dice than you would in something like Formula D—when to take a risk, when to prevent a loss of control, etc. A stage or two can easily be played in less than an hour.

Both of those games are great lunch break games, I can say from personal experience.

Don't confuse automobiles with the Martin Wallace game automobile, which is about manufacturing cars!

Or do, because automobile is a great game...though not under an hour.

Rush & Bash is a car race game that plays in less than an hour. It's a fun game, but has lots of luck, unfortunately.
