Imagine that, for some reason, you have to give up gaming entirely. You have to sell all of your games and you can't buy any more. You cannot keep a single whole game.

But... You can keep one thing to remind you of your hobby. A game board, a mini, a favorite die or chip, a favorite card, or even a single (empty) box.

What do you keep to remind you of what once was?

For me, it would be the shark meeple from Poseidon's Kingdom. He just makes me laugh and if I had to give up gaming, I'd need the laugh.

Nothing.

I wouldn't want to be reminded of it if I couldn't play anymore.

Why for this life there's no man smart enough, life's too short for learning every trick and bluff.

Well, it would have to be something I invested the most time in, which is actually the Mage Knight Vassal module by a factor of about 1,000, but presumably I couldn't keep that as it represents (the ability to play) a full game. Also, if other people can still use that's good enough for me. Other than that... probably a figure I painted recently that came out well:

The blank card included in my copy of Terraforming Mars... on which I’d scribble “When played, this card nullifies ridiculous and unreasonable premises” after which I’d suddenly realize there’s no reason I need to give up gaming or sell my games.

I might keep my boards from Wiz-War for framing.

Or perhaps the Cyberdemon from DOOM, so that I could have him painted.

Can I pick my external hard drive that stores the scans of my games and the pnp files so I can recreate them? No? Well, okay... that must mean I'm dead, so I don't need a souvenir to keep (as I would never give up gaming).

Okay, I'll go with what the other person said - my wife. I've given up all my games, but she hasn't given up all hers (and we co-own them). What? I can't do that either? Okay... um...

Can I keep the box and bamboo pieces from the Takenoko collectors edition to let my nieces and nephews play with them as toys? I guess I'd do that, as I would want to have some play time with whatever I keep. Otherwise, nothing really seems to make sense to keep - I have too much useless junk cluttering up my life, so I don't need any more knick-knacks or kitch to clutter up my place.

The nose* of the bastard who made me give up my hobby.

I'd then take my games and my game purchasing power back in an epic battle that I hope involves hundreds of trained squirrels under my command.
