News had filtered through of a naughty Hun Recce aircraft that had been snooping about over Albert for the last few mornings, spotting for the Boche guns.

It had been decided by the Staff that an end should be put to this shenanigans and so it fell to 56 to do so. Or more accurately 2nd Lieutenant 's 'Blanco' White and Strangely-Brown.

As Brown and White patrolled at 9000 ft in their SE5a's they spotted 3 aircraft to their East, heading ENE. The smudges of Archie around them suggested it was our snooper and escort. Sure enough as they approached they were seen to be an AEG spotter with 2 Albatri on escort a little higher and behind it.

Brown and White turned towards them and split to come at the Hun from either side just as they changed direction directly into our chaps.

Brown found himself closing head on with the spotter and fired a burst at close range but with no effect.

Now the Albatri reacted and dived into the attack one getting a head on burst on White and hitting his gun causing it to jam as he tried to return fire. The other got a brief shot at Brown but missed by a country mile!

As White un-jammed his gun keeping an eye on his Albatros and it's movements, Brown turned to try and get another shot at the spotter.

The AEG carried on towards Albert as Brown was prevented from closing by the attentions of his enemy who fired another burst which caused no damage.

Brown now attracted the attentions of both Albatri who got in numerous shots but no hits.

Meanwhile White caught the spotter over Albert in its final straight run and managed to damage it with a long burst causing it to disappear off North East at speed in escape, but as he did so an Albatros that had escaped the dogfight with Brown got on his tail and damaged him in response causing White to five and head for home.

With Brown and his Hun unable to get in any telling bursts all parties headed for home and breakfast, honours even.I
