Is there any house rule to avoid a situation where a gladiator runs away forever?

(The equivalent of stalemate in chess?)

We've never had this happen, although I could see why it might. Did it happen to you or is this hypothetical? It woukd be great to have a way of dealing with it if it ever came up.

It happened to me this evening, with my son and nephew. I suggested a house rule that if anyone ran away three times in a row, the game was considered forfeit and they lost an influence.

In the event, the threat was enough, I didn’t need to apply. I haven’t read the wild animal rules, but it seems like that might be one way around this.

Running away is pointless.

The wild animal rules (included in the Complete rulebook) will discourage that even further (unless you want the Rhino to appear).

We play that you are at the mercy of the host and if they aren't finding combat to be satisfactory they will call the match and thumbs down the cowards sending them to their death.
