In some occasions, with us being pirates and all, we will want to board other ships to plunder their cargos. Some other times, it will be us being boarded, since the reward for our ship and crew is more than generous. It could even happen when we are spotted by another ship at sea, thinking that we are easy prey, and we end up showing them how wrong they are!

When you board another ship, both ships will stop their movement in the same space of the Voyage board, and the boarding board will be placed on the table.

The captain may send pirate groups to the gunwale to get ready for boarding another ship.

In the enemies’ ship, there will be up to 10 spaces representing that enemy’s combat prowess, and it will vary depending on the enemy we are facing.

The characters will have different options when boarding other ships, depending on their location:

- The swivel guns may be fired from the gunwale, to cause casualties among the enemy ranks.
- You can also open fire from the crow’s nest to the enemies’ gunwale.
- Your pirate groups, who will fight fiercely to defend our ship, can be supported by players located in gunwale/support posts on the board, and these will add bonuses to your rolls while leading the fight.
- In addition, characters may try to jump into the other ship by taking an agility roll. If we manage to cross over to the other ship, we can choose between attacking enemies or cutting the ropes to separate both ships and break the boarding. But if we fail… we will be knocked out for the duration of the boarding, losing prestige points for being the laughingstock of the whole crew.

It is important to remember that we are not just protecting our lives and booty, because every action that we successfully carry out during the voyage phase will gain us trust points, which can be used during mutinies on board, or to trade for prestige points once you go back to dry land.

After boarding other ships… it’s time for looting! Both characters and pirate groups will plunder the other ship and fill our ship’s hold with valuable goods.

This is the result of winning while boarding a ship, but what happens if we lose and our ship is boarded? Trust me, you don't want that to happen, but that’s another story and a different adventure…
