I'm not even sure if that can happen but I am curious if hype has propelled a game up on the top game list.

Thank all!

Pretty sure it would not be possible - the ranking require a certain number of valid ratings, and they have mystical and magical checks in place to help determine which ratings qualify as legitimate.

Definitely possible to be ranked, not sure how high it can get. For instance Zombicide: Invader is currently ranked 8446 but isn't scheduled for release until May 2019

Wow, that surprises me. I thought a game would need far more ratings than 75 in order to get ranked.

Regardless, I believe it would be nigh impossible to determine the history on this. First, you would have to have reliable release dates for all games on BGG. Given different release dates per country, for Kickstarter backers, different versions, it would be a nightmare just trying to get that data.

Interesting geeklist to start compiling though. It wouldn't be complete I guess but you'd get some interesting examples. Probably take five years off the lives of the real 'cult of the new' haters though.

Batman: Gotham City Chronicles is at 5185.

Edit: And Brass: Birmingham brings us into the top 5000, currently at 4689.

Games should be marked as "(Admin: Unreleased games)" family if they are not yet published. Such games should not be ranked IMHO. Maybe the geek ranking follows that guideline? At least I do in my own ranking projects, see my geeklist "Ranking of game designers: An aggregate calculation based on the Average game ratings".

What's next with these zombies? Not only alive after death, but even before birth.
