Well, your main job isn't delivery, it's running a delivery company.

I'm kind of confused by this. Amazon already has the USPS, Fedex, UPS, and their own uber-style delivery people. How do they think that a host of small delivery companies will improve on the existing options?

I think it's the volume of boxes that they expect, taking the pressure off of UPS and FedEx, etc.
Which also means that they can dictate even better terms with the big guys, since they can say "If not you, then I've got BGG69 Delivery Service ready to step in on those routes..."

As I expected, that "last mile" factor is mentioned.

And now with all the pharmaceuticals they expect to be delivering, they're gonna need more delivery options.

Having run Prime since we watched American Gods, 'amazon' has been delivering directly in the GTA. This is likely the gig. They kick the crap out of couriers as, get this, they'll leave the freaking parcel at my apartment door when I ask them to, not tell me they can't.

I've actually been expecting Amazon to either purchase UPS and Fed Ex or create it's own company for deliveries.

Here there are drivers that deliver for Amazon exclusively. I have no knowledge about the mechanics behind their employment however.
