Tip: read from the beginning round 1
Tip: Italicized words refer to key strategy cards and abilities used in the game
Current standings: Carnage 9, Swords 6, Nemesis 3, Valkyries 0.
Note: In the final match, each team is awarded 0,3,6 or 9 points for last, 3rd, 2nd and 1st places respectively. To counter for the potential large swing of points at the end of the season, each team was given one bonus edge token for each team they finished above prior to the slaughterbrawl.

Round 4 - SlaughterBrawl Cup

Finally, it was time for all the competing teams to play in one final all-in match to determine the final winner of the SlaughterBrawl Cup. In lead-up there was of course some off-field drama. The Swords of Damocles publicly vowed revenge against the Carnage for the dismemberment of their key razor in a previous match-up, while headlines reported that the Valkyries coach had been fired and the team would be self-managed in their final game. Athletes leaked that management felt there had been an over-focus on looks, rather than game performance.

The creak of the ball launcher in slice 3 sounded the beginning of the match and it was Nemesis who found the first lucky bounce - straight into the bladed hands of their cyborg butcher. A pass to their razor and it was a sharp shot for 5 points! ... An early lead that set the pace for the rest of the game.

The Valkyries kept up with an early goal, but this time focused their early game mainly on dispersing the other teams with their newly found diversionary tactics! Carnage found their butchers out of position on the arena edges and the swords found their razor (once again) on the meat Grinder.

With their butchers largely out of position, it was up to the carnage slashers to take up the golden opportunity of destroying yet another Swords razor on the meat grinder. The blow was a knockdown, which turned into yet another gory sight - red bits of armour being torn asunder as all four razor limbs were turned to mulch! Of course there was a penalty, but it expired not long after.

The swords, now even more out for revenge, challenged the Carnage slasher with their Butcher. It was a knockdown! ... for Carnage that is. The butcher lay flat on his back while the slasher went about some dirty stomping. Apparently they were falling on their own swords, as the Damocles had definitely lost all momentum with two athletes now already in the slaughterbox.

The first half past very swiftly with a number of slaughters in quick succession. Only the Valkries and Carnage still had good numbers left on the field. Nemesis led the pack, with Carnage following close by after some non-penalized and point-scoring fouls. Valkyries and Swords trailed behind.

The second half finally saw some Valkyrie dominance. After keeping a low profile in the first half and focusing on diversionary tactics, the field had opened up for them allowing them to make some risky, but rewarding shots. A highlight for sure was seeing their ballbusting slasher defend the slaughterball against a Swords of Damocles challenger who ended up with a solid imprint of the steel ball in his face.

With the Valkries strategically hogging the ball, it made it difficult for the Nemesis and Swords to get meaningful shots off. With some burst of speed, Carnage tried to bring their butchers back into play from the perimeters, finally getting the ball loose from Valkyrie hands. The Carnage thought it time to get crunchy on the fallen Valkyrie players, but the ref didn't agree. With carnage players finally reaching the penalty box, only the Valkyries were left with numbers.

Nemesis and Swords each scored again, however Nemesis ended the Swords chances in the game by denying the Swords a crucial goal-scoring opportunity by thwarting their sharpshooter's tactics. Nearing the end of the game, Nemesis and Valkyries were close. Though Carnage had removed athletes from the pit, their brute force points couldn't match the shooting prowess of the other teams, excepting the Swords who really looked very down and out. In the final moments, the Valkyries diverted Carnage away from their team toward Nemesis and tallied a likely winning score with a final goal. However, the Nemesis razor escaped the clutches of a Carnage butcher by a blades edge and scored a difficult but terrific goal to take the final lead. In the end: Nemesis 26, Valkyrie 25, Carnage 18, Swords 15.

End of Season Scorelines

Carnage.................... 12 (tied winner based on point difference)
Nemesis.................... 12
Swords of Damocles... 6 (tied winner based on point difference)
Valkyries................... 6

Not enough Bamboozle, no mention of the Quad and yet this paragraph, this collection of words utterly represents all that is great about Slaughterball, so I'll allow it!

Anyone who plays this game without color commentary by the players is missing a whole level of gaming magic. The game is such a well put together distillation of ameritrash on its own but when you add in players who are into it and cheering and jeering and calling out what is happening in horrible detail it really shines like no other game.

I just started playing Bloodbowl, I love Bloodbowl, but where it has more strategic depth it just lacks the pure sheer joy of of a Carnage Butcher going to stomp a Swords Razor and the Bamboozle flips the script and the Butcher ends up on his keister. I like the gritty "realism" of Bloodbowl but I have more of an affinity to the over the top action of Slaughterball. Maybe it is the smaller teams and the three activations that make it feel smoother and hyperkinetic, the card play that can either lay waste to the best of plans or set you up for a 10 point Hail Mary throw or the quick smaller board that feels more tactical but whatever it is I love it. Bloodbowl does have a more serious feel, more thought goes into positioning and every piece gets moved if you are lucky and while it provides an amazing gaming experience and has a very cool history it just feels heavier. Nothing wrong with a sports game with a different angle and I love it for different reasons but it is a double edged sword, at the end of a Slaughterball game we just go over the amazing highlights and may lightly discuss what we could have done differently to play better while at the end of a Bloodbowl game that is reversed. They both have their place.

Totally agree. This game really is like the "arcade" experience of sports games. Everything is pumped up action wise - the highlight reel of this game would pretty much the whole game.

Still very much enjoy pulling this game out after many, many, many plays. I'd still put it in my top 2-3 of all time (all shared in 1st place).
