Hey guys - just some news for you...

EGGERTSPIELE is delighted to share its plans for an expansion for its hot Essen 2017 release, Heaven & Ale! The expansion provides new strategic options for players, including a new player board to coordinate the delivery of their monastery's glorious brew to local taverns. However, this isn't easy and may require some divine intervention to execute it. Players who best utilize their delivery route will score additional points for timely delivery.

Heaven & Ale was designed by Michael Kiesling and Andreas Schmidt. Released in 2017, Heaven & Ale has been a commercial and critical success. Heaven & Ale has been nominated for several awards in the last 6 months that include the Kennerspiel des Jahres, Golden Geek (Strategy), Meeple's Choice, and Goblin Magnifico. Fans can expect more information in the coming weeks and should expect it to be available in Spring/Summer 2019.

I am a big solo fan as well, but I don't know if that's in the cards

This is really exciting news! I love Heaven & Ale. Do you know if the expansion will add more game objectives?

Can the expansion be used without the base game, since the latter has been out of print for the last six months...

It's not out of print, it's between prints. I suspect your local distributor didn't order enough. Sorry

I'm hoping this expansion reworks/fixes the wonky barrel objectives. The rest of the game is excelent.

Not to be antagonistic, but I think the barrels are fine.

The only thing I don't like about the barrels is they are kind of fiddly to setup ...

I actually agree they are wonky. It would be nice to have some sort-term goals with the long-term ones. Kind of lame that the barrel spot isn't used in the first round or two. Even if the barrel spot had a secondary function. It would also be nice to have more goals, so that a random subset are used each game to increase variability.

Without the barrels the game is very straightforward and players might largely do exactly the same things for the same reasons. The barrels encourage players to take different paths and pursue different sub-goals in addition to the main goal. It's another way of giving players different priorities.

What would early/mid game barrels goals even look like in this game? Anyone have any example? Seems like it would be difficult to balance out?

I agree about the first round. In my 2P games, people generally arne't using the barrel spots until the 3rd and final round. Fair point.
