Martial Art: Battlefields Kickstarter page
Spider-Goat Games is returning to Kickstarter with their critically acclaimed card game Martial Art, seeking funding to print the game's first expansion, Battlefields. Gamers who like a feudal Japanese theme and artwork, or who enjoy simple yet strategic card games, will have many hours of fun to look forward to with Martial Art.
Martial Art has been played and loved all over the world, with a very strong user rating on Board Game Geek and a seal of approval from The Dice Tower. It will launch on Kickstarter with the full art and design complete. The campaign will feature the expansion for $9, the base game for $14, and both for $19. Shipping to backers in the USA is included in the price, and the project is EU- and Australia-friendly with an additional cost to international addresses.
About the game
Featuring historic Japanese artwork, Martial Art is a card game of factions warring for dominance of feudal Japan. The game consists of a series of battles in which players must anticipate their opponents' actions, build their hands, and manage their cards to acquire enough land and power to defeat the other clans and win the game.
Each round, players battle for land by playing a card face down then revealing simultaneously. The highest strength wins the battle, but each card has a unique ability which may negate the power of your opponents' cards. Additionally, you may play support cards such as cavalry to turn the tide of battle. The first player to accumulate enough lands wins the game.
About the Battlefields expansion
Battlefields introduces two new mechanics: terrain and weather. Terrain cards may be played before battle to affect the outcome, but the terrain you choose to occupy with your army may give the other players a hint as to your intentions. Alternatively, bluff with your terrain card and play a battle card that will take them by surprise.
Weather is shuffled into the land deck and will appear randomly, lasting until a new weather card is drawn to replace it. Weather will affect battles in unpredictable ways, leaving you with some difficult decisions. Do you charge your troops through the snow to capture that valuable bridge, or do you rest your warriors and bring up your supplies?
