Subject: Help: Junior/Intro Version rss

Guys, I searched, but couldn't find, an introductory, or junior version.

My thoughts:

1) Early war cards/regions only.
2) Each card gets played once only.
3) Take out De-Stal*, NORAD*, Fidel* (and maybe some other cards?)
4) No realignments
5) Space track goes 2/1, 2/0, 3/1. (No "Can send 2 cards per turn).
6) Final Scoring (Europe/ME/Asia only) after all cards played. China card worth 1VP.
7) Influence at beginning is defined, not "USSR place 6", etc.
8) And balanced, so no bidding for sides is necessary.

Anyone else seen anything else on this? Any other changes you would recommend?

Try 13 Days: The Cuban Missile Crisis instead for a "junior" version of TS. You learn the core mechanisms (card play, score balance, DEFCON) even though the way they are done is different.

I was going to bring up 13 Days, but Tor beat me to it. The biggest problem I see is trying to achieve balance when focusing only on the early war. It is a good idea, but I think you'd have to give it some more thought. The early war is stacked in favor of the USSR while the late war strengthens the US. This is part of the known arc of the game, so experienced players plan and work with it in mind.

Maybe shortened versions of each stage of the war, using only key event cards that are balanced?
