Re:Good for 2 players?
I agree.

San Juan is excellent for 2 players, just like Puerto Rico is. (Wit hthe official 2p variant).

Re:Good for 2 players?
If one of the two players plays badly, and doesnt get income, then they get crushed by the other, and deserve to lose.

"Rich get richer" is the cornerstone of all economic building games, where you purchase abilities which help you make even more money/points...I dont see why people bash it. Playing well SHOULD put you in a better position!

You build up in order to facilitate an exponential growth.

Imo, If you dont like that mechanism, dont play an economic game.

What do you want? Good play to be punished so that the player making mistakes can catch up?

If you are getting stomped you can always resign and start again.

It plays pretty well with just two. Since I already own the Settlers card game, I'd play that if the time is available.

Have any of you hunks ever played Third Warrior of the Evermount Tribe of the Enchanted Forest of Beldark? Its like the coolest game. Its part of the Chronicals of Jeff Bagwell and the Ministroni Tribe

The endgame in 3WotETotEFoB is entirely determined by the Pudding Flavor and Viscosity die rolls, which I found disappointing after 2 enjoyable hours. I cannot recommend it, but would be willing to try other games in that series.

Jim

P.S. I resent the implication that I am a "hunk".

Re:Good for 2 players?
permagoof (#34953),

I think it works fine with 2 player. In fact, there is an interesting dynamic with the prospector (particularly with the library) if you are getting outproduced and don't want to be contiinually outproduced and/or outsold. Similar using the prefecture.

This dynamic actually weakens with more players as the other players can better share the load of requiring 2 actions for producing and trading.
