Only 5 games played and already a house rule has hit our table.
We didn’t like how the monsters acted during our first 4 games. Some people got lucky and the monsters didn’t do anything when in their territories. Others had theirs activated again and again (and some can’t be avoided like the minotaur).

Proposal:
During the monster phase: roll the monster die only once. The effect applies to all monsters. After all monster activations have been resolved, the active player can move 1 monster by 1 region.

Effect:
Less random activations of the monsters. +++
More power to the monument builder since it has now 1 guaranteed movement. +
Smaller probability that any monster does something at all, making them less impactful. ---

Your thoughts?

Not sure how that's less random. I mean players control when they activate. And it's a big part of the strategy and risks.

But there is an alternate to Hermes monument out there (official) that lets you use priests to control monsters. Might be worth checking out for your group. (You could also use it as a 4th monument as there is a spot on the board for it, just won't have a monument)

It is less random in the sense that is for everyone the same. No 3 times in a row a player having a priest eaten because he has an empty region with a minotaur while another keeps his Cerberus region at 3 hoplites without them getting eaten.
So for each individual monster its the same 'risk' to get activated. And you have a similar control on when they activate. You only have extra control of a single monster movement (which is largely to compensate for the 'no action' side of the die.)

But I’ll look into the alternative Hermes Monument as well, thanks for pointing it out. You don’t happen to have a link? (or an "hey, its here on the boards, you haven't looked hard enough for it yet.") edit: found it, its in the pnp files! As the Hades monument.

Actually, I like the Monster die mechanic as a whole. It's random, but also makes the game more interesting. Also adds a new layer to strategy - you have to think twice before conquering a Region with Minotaur or leaving your Hoplites in a Region with Cerberus, but there is still a chance that you won't be affected by their attacks, and your opponent will be. No such thing if we change it to a single roll.

rolls are random, but taking control of places where are monsters not. so if you decide to control areas with monsters, You are putting yourself on a risk and it's not randomness. Also you can use 'Build Monument' action to have chance to move creature to field of your opponent or if your opponent was lucky with his units on Cerberus field you will roll for that again. And apart from that you can hunt on a creature in your fields to get rid of it and gain rewards which are powerful. This is very nice mechanic.
