Newport, South Wales
The 6 Pilgrims arrived at the abbey, anticipating a much needed rest after their long journey. This was not to be the case however. A Murder had been committed, and as the only monks that the abbot could trust to investigate, the six set about their investigations.
All the new brothers, had already eliminated at a number of suspects, brother Green immediately visited the the parlamentorium, in an attempt to eliminate more. He was followed by Brother White and Brother Black. Brother Red visited the scriptorium to see what the records could tell him. Brother Blue attended confession, Brother yellow also arrived later at the parlormetorium.
All Investigations were going smoothly, with simple questions being asked, but not gleaming much information, as there were still suspects that were unaccounted for. It wasn't until Lauds that all the main suspects had been seen by the new brothers.
However at this point, the abbot's orders were that all were to speak only in plainsong. Perhaps not surprisingly, many of the new arrivals, chose to remain silent during this period, although some questions were asked, the suspect list was getting smaller. During this period the cells of the visiting monks were searched for clues, with brother White being caught in brother blacks room, he was sent to chapel for penance.
The Bell for Prime was rung. As the monks returned to the chapel, the another body was discovered in the pig sty. Poor Father Michael, he must have uncovered something damning about the murderer, to have met such a fate as this. It was during Prime, brother Green, went to see the abbot to make a revelation, that he believed the culprit was a thin man. The Abbot blessed brother green for his devoted work, and bid him continue the search. Just then, brother Black arrived, and after questioning brother Green, also made a revelation that the villain was a fat monk. The abbot blessed brother Black, and sent him on his way.
With this conflicting news to consider, the abbot was then visited by brothers Red and yellow, both believed they knew the identity of the killer. Brother Beringar was accused, and subsequently proven to be innocent. brother Red, was shocked and ordered to perform penance. Brother Yellow revealed that he believed the murderer was Novice Andre. He too was also proven innocent, brother Yellow was also sent for penance. Soon after, Brother Blue also made an accusation that he believed the murderer was Brother Emmanuel. This too was shown to be false, and brother Blue joined the others at the chapel in penance.
With these many false accusations, the suspect list was growing short, both brother Black and brother Green were heard to say that they had narrowed down the list of suspects to 2.
Brother Black, quickly returned to the abbot and announced that he believed the culprit was Brother Julian of the Benedictine order, brother Green was heard to say that Julian was one of his remaining suspects.
No one could vouch for brother Julian, so the villain was revealed to be none other than Novice Charles?
WTF! uttered the shocked congregation, this cannot be, he was eliminated from many suspect lists, and where was Julian, he was nowhere to be found.
The abbot declared that there was no justice, and a search was started to locate brother Julian. A head count of the monks showed that indeed 24 were present, then Brother Julian was found, and all was well, except that the villain escaped. The abbot sent word to the sheriff that novice Charles was at large and was to be hunted down.
Brother Green: Mark (Me)
Brother White: Antony
Borther Black: James
Brother Red: Gerri
Brother Blue: Emily
Brother Yellow: Lucy
It is unknown how Novice Charles came to be eliminated, so definatly from so many peoples lists. Brother Julian's card was in brother Blues collection, stuck to another card, so was not seen when the cards were checked. In future, better methods of recording answers to questions need to be developed.
