The major complaint about Eschnapur is that there is a large amount of luck in the game: the player who draws the "sure-win" cards has the advantage of gaining the VPs or the Artifacts he wants, while a player stuck with a hand of mediocre cards has to take risks and hope that he will not get burnt!

So, what do you do if you get stuck from the beginning with cards like 12,15,17,20?

Here's some tips:

1. Don't play these cards early hoping to be lucky and gain VPs or Artifacts. Sometimes you will gain something but more often than not you will just lose the card: each card you lose costs 3 coins to replace!

2. Keep in mind that these mediocre cards will become more valuable as the game proceeds and the highest/lowest value cards are discarded.

3. You need money! Use your P card in the early rounds to get money instead of taking risks with your mediocre cards. Money can buy you cards.

4. Concentrate on Color cards and Step tiles and try to be the first to open Vaults and gain VPs. Also taking Color cards denies them from your opponents.

5. If you go with (4) above, don't give Color cards or Steps to your opponents in the Trade round (that's obvious!)

6. Watch very carefully the amount of money each player has: you can determine which cards they can pay for! If the other players are almost out of money you can play a mediocre card with minimal risk since most of them will play their P card to get money. If your timing is right you can gain both rewards (highest and lowest) with a mediocre card!

7. Buddha is your friend! Getting points just opening the Vaults will give you some VPs but probably you will end up in last position soon. Since you get the Buddha who doubles your points for as long as you are in last position, try to make him count!

8. The player with the most Artifacts at game end scores +12 VPs and the player with the fewest -6 VPs. Try not to be the last and if you can't be the player with the most, at least try to tie the players with the most (in that case the +12 VPs are split between the tied player).
