How would you go about contesting fleet placement with a CV Strike? My understanding is that the CV Strike unit doesn't actually exist until you place and convert a CV Fleet, so what is the mechanism for contesting?

Also, since the CV Strike can contest only in hexes where the CV Fleet could be placed, what is the advantage over just contesting with the CV Fleet?

If you can place a CV fleet adjacent to the target, you can then convert the CV fleet to a CV strike to contest the targeted enemy fleet. Also your CV strike’s one extra hex makes your legal placement area 1 hex further than a fleet unit.

The advantage of contesting with the CV strike is that your delay roll is as an air unit. The enemy fleet will roll as a naval unit. Naval units can get serious delays if they roll a 6.

Actually, the rules say "A CV Strike unit can contest...if its CV Fleet can be placed in the same location", so I don't think you do get the 1-hex extension. The delay box difference could be significant, though. Thank you.
