When playing through the missions as a campaign, do you need to keep using the same monsters for each one? Or would you be able, for example, to use different monsters for each mission so long as they are the same type as the one(s) being replaced

The reason I ask is because I know this game has been compared to Zombicide, a game where although there are a set number of quests, you don't necessarily have to keep using the exact same characters. And much like Zombicide there are a lot of monsters to play as in this game, especially with the add-ons, and it would be nice to use them all.

I rarely used the same monsters, and it worked out fine. Just select the number of upgrade skills in the setup for that monster. Class shouldn't be an issue as long as you stick to the 1 decimator rule.

Only the first five scenarios have Special Conditions relating to carrying monsters and their acquired skills over, for the rest you seem to start from scratch if following the rules closely.

Of course as with any decent game you can alter the rules as your party sees fit, so if you want to change skills or monsters, or even carry them over from one map to the next then go for it.

It's also worth noting that having a balanced party is advised, not a hard rule. A diverse party with good teamwork is the safe bet; if you over specialise your party in role then you may not be able to deal with numbers over a certain amount before you start getting bumped off, if you bring too many monsters of the same type you leave your party vulnerable to Hunters & Heroes of that same type who will prioritise monsters of the same type and deal extra damage to them.
