I have been playing this great title for a few months now after a 2 year layoff. Love this game. Hits the sweet spot between playability and accuracy (for me at least)

Played the ironclad vs ironclad scenarios multiple times now. And have come to the conclusion that the original combat results vs armored targets is a mite too powerful. Iron clad warships were getting damaged too easily and too severely IMHO.

I propose this slight variant:

No difference in damage vs wooden surfaces. However, when a hit vs an armored location occurs, and the CR>=2x the DR, then there is NO shield damage.

Also if the CR>=3xDR, then there is only a shield increase of -1 NOT 2.
All other aspects of armored damage remains unchanged.

This variant nerfs the negative DRM of the shield mechanic for armored vessels somewhat, but I feel it is more realistic in terms of staying power of the Ironclads.

Please let me know what you guys think. Feel free to refute as well.
