Several of these I would play, sight unseen, just based off of the names. Going to declare a three-way tie between:

Scrabble Commander: The Game of Crimes

Pirates of Gettysburg

and

Don't Pet Your Car!

But damn, they are all some kind of special, and I hope some designer draws some sort of inspiration from this list.

Keep an eye out for the PoG expansion Pirates of Gettysburg: Beach and the Mosh

Scrabble Commander had some really great expansions too.

Scrabble Commander: The Marco Days of Land in Triumphline
Scrabble Commander: The Army of Cannibatorius Junior Edition

DPYC even has some expansions, but they're pretty hard to find.

Don't Pet Your Car: The Paradision Campaign – Beetlet, 1943
Don't Pet Your Car: Heavy Europe
Don't Pet Your Car: The Sea of Darkness

I don't know how to feel about the fact that I'm psyched about ALL of these, but especially:

Star Wars: Star Wars - Star Wars - Battle Card Game
Chaos & Canada
Chronicles of Checkers
The Struggle of the Third Edition

and what is sure to be my new favorite word/party game -

Contraction Castle. OR it's a game about medieval midwives! Amazing.

ETA: I actually made myself cry laughing at these. Thank you so much.

Doctor Who: The American Revolution sounds like it could be part of an incredible series of war games for 3 players.

Imagine two players play against each other, taking a side in a war. Meanwhile the third player is Doctor Who, rushing around the map trying to make sure the Daleks don't exterminate everyone, while also trying to interfere as little as possible in the war.

This 40K campaign takes place on the infamous, dark and bloody Planet of Hats. Roll to see which kind of hat you leader has on before each battle.

Hats are sold separately in GW shops, EUR12,50 each. You cannot play if you do not buy the one you rolled for.

When the final winner is known, everybody else must say "hats off!".

Kinda overdone theme, but might make for a good filler game for the holidays.

Name a more iconic duo, eh.

Conquest of the Ancient World: The Battle of Indiana

This is akin to a silly pet idea I have: what if America had developed European culture and kinda-similar History, and vice versa.

Play as game designers as they struggle to find new ideas for the third edition of their flagship game.

I need 'Kung Fluxx' and 'Battle for Catan' in my life.

Also, I seriously hope that this list inspires somebody to just do some crazy mashup game! With so many generic and similar games coming out it would be great to have a random theme generator that you than build a game around.

Peace

Contrarily to seemingly most BGG, I'm trying to find motives to get rid of games.

You should.

Then how much have you cherrypicked the examples you've listed us? Neural net experiments of the same type tend to output way messier results on average.

For instance, "Indiana" is a word that appears on a lot of board games titles, but never with the word "of" before and the AI obviously doesn't know it's a location, so "The Battle of Indiana" seems like an incredibly fortunate accident.

Now selecting examples that sound like real boardgames is fine, but maybe slightly defeats the point, as the more you prune your selection, the more the list you present us with looks like a human trying to imitate a neural network rather than a neural network trying to imitate a human!

... and it decided to kill off humanity in order to implement its cube-shipping, resource-conversion utopia, is what I expected the thread to say, but what I got was better. Brings back memories of putting foreign edition book titles through machine translation to English, and Backstroke of the West.

It’s a bit surprising that Battle For Catan hasn’t happened.

Or maybe this guy is from the future and he is just trolling us with real future game names?

OK, now someone photoshop up some covers for these games. Geeklist powers, activate!

More fun would be to create one list for each subdomain: All (this is here already) Abstract Games, Customizable Games, Children's Games, Family Games, Party Games, Strategy Games, Thematic Games, Wargames. I bet the Thematic Games one would be even more gut-bustingly funny than this one.

As someone who has no interest in playing anything Star Wars related, this actually sounds like a real product name to me. I’m almost positive I’ve seen this game somewhere already.

I made a Twitter account or something. http://twitter.com/boardnames

These lists are pretty selectively cherry picked. I kept only the 10-15 funniest ones out of 500. This is not to say that the others aren’t completely plausible names - some actually exist. I’ll post a raw list when I get to my computer.

This model was trained in about 20 epochs, so the results are really nicely polished. I only cleaned up maybe two of them overall, and even then not that much. (Don’t Pet Your Car! was originally Don’t Pet You Car!)

I can certainly work on turning the Twitter page into an actual bot like http://twitter.com/gameideamachine and training the model to reliably produce gems like these based on user feedback, but that will have to wait until after finals. This was really just a first dive into ML and Tensorflow.

Edit: switched to a better twitter handle
