Looking for help on an xmas gift
my brother is 9 and loves boardgames, cept he has the usual mass market trash for his age range usually.
A while back I got him Dragonwood and he is crazy about it. he also enjoyed King of Tokyo when I took it round.

I would like to try him on co op but dunno what is out there that he would get into.

If anyone can recommend me something I'd be really grateful
something along the lines of ....
- co op or competetive
- not too rules heavy
- a theme I can sell him on (something exciting for a 9yo maybe)
- easily available in UK and not too pricey, looking to spend £20 or less
- doesn't have to be a masterpiece of game design, just fun
- plays well with 2

Thanks

Kingdomino—just played this with my 10-year old. He doesn’t like many games, but he loved this.

+1 to Forbidden Island
Also Forbidden Desert

My 9yo and 11yo love these. They play well at various counts (each player can easily manage either one or two characters), and the co-op aspect is greatly preferred by my 9yo, who doesn't particularly like direct conflict.

The co-op games that go well with my 9yo are Flash Point: Fire Rescue and Castle panic. They are a bit over 20 GBP though (Chaos card seem to have good prices and free shipping though). I never met anyone that didn't like Flash point.

Otherwise +1 for Forbidden island.

It is hard to recommend games under GBP 20, the closest I get is
Carcassonne they seem to go for about GBP 22. Maybe the star wars theme could be something?

Diamant (under 20 on Chaos card) puch your luck, was a hit at the extracurriculum club. They even got their own copy.

Maybe Deep Sea Adventure (under 20) a push your luck game

I have an 8 and 9 year old and they love playing Escape from 100 Million B.C.

I'm not sure about pricing but I think it's about 25USD on Amazon right now.

Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters is a great cooperative game for kids and anyone new to cooperative games or gaming. It is very simple to learn and set up, but it is still stressful in that you are not guaranteed a win (especially on the advanced mode). It is great for kids and beginners because it looks more like a traditional game (gameboard reminds me of Clue), and it does have a roll the dice to move aspect, but this is a really nice (and award winning) game, not to mention the quality (and cute) components. I played this game with my 11-year old twin cousins (a boy and girl) recently, and they loved it so much we actually played 3 games in a row.

Once your brother has advanced beyond this game, Forbidden Island, which is a bit more abstract and "adult" looking, is a great next step in cooperative gaming.
