After playing Massive Darkness I thought it would be a tad more balanced in Descent to have the Heroes have starting Armor instead of the Dice on their Hero Card (Nanok excluded).
Examples:

Rune Master Robes: Brown Die, Add one Shield when defending against Range Attacks.

Knight's Training Armor: Brown Die, Exhaust this card to add one Gray Die.

Ranger's Gear: Brown Die, Plus one Movement.

Discple's Robes: Brown Die, Plus one Endurance.

Brown dice vs Grey dice for defense seriously underpowers the Heroes.

Because the Heroes have Gear/Skills that add defense dice. Where the Monsters always roll Brown. Blame it on how I was steamrolled in Lair of the Wyrmshake

The only monster in the base set that rolls a brown defence die is the zombies. All the others roll grey or better.

But they always have Brown instead of 2 Gray. I'm not a fan of a One vs. Many were the Monsters don't exactly upgrade to compete with the Heroes.
