A friend is coming over this weekend for some M44 action. Up to this point we’ve only played scenarios for the base game, but I’d like to put some of my other content to use.

Any suggestions for scenarios with the winter or desert boards that are easy with very few new rules or exceptions? Here’s what I have.

Hmmm...I’d try something with the breakthrough deck and your winter/desert board...

My favorites to play:

Winter:
Twin Villages - https://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/en/editor/view/?id=368...
Parker’s Crossroads - https://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/en/editor/view/?id=136...
Suomussalmi - https://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/en/editor/view/?id=140...

Desert:
Escape Via The Coastal Road - https://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/en/editor/view/?id=424...
Dug In At Sidi Omar - https://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/en/battles/?id=1324&re...
Hellfire Pass - https://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44/en/editor/view/?id=424...

Suomussalmi and Hellfire Pass are the most complex of each set rules-wise, but they’re not that bad. I think Escape Via Coastal Road is especially interesting with the lateral movement focus rather than foward and back.

I’d also suggest you Pickup Memoir '44: Through Jungle and Desert as soon as you can. the combat cards for desert and jungle maps are a great addition, and the preprinted maps make things really fast.

Breakthrough maps tend to be more complex and take longer, so I’d start with the above. Then try the Breakthrough scenarios in the back of Winter Wars like Pieper at Stoumont

I like Nach Moscow. The allied player suffers sudden death the instant a German unit enters the Moscow hex marked.

You have most of the stuff you need: Eastern front, winter wars and terrain pack but you would need arrange some artillery as mobile artillery and Big guns. You can use some kind of counter to remember it. Besides, the russians have two cavalry units.

Well, he is looking for a winter/Desert board scenario without many new rules or exceptions.

Good Suggestions for the Winter Board, at least, would include from the Eastern Front expansion:

Gates of Moscow (only uses the Russian Commissar rule, which is sort of a core rule for the Russians, and the Blitz Rule, which is again sort of a core rule for most pre-1943 scenarios).

Red Barricades (adds snipers and minefields to the above, but those are not particularly complex)

"Your results are back: it's negative"......um, is that a bad thing?

Desert:
I do like “Escape via the Coastal Road” as well. Since you don’t own Mediterranean Theater, you’d have to use the green roads of the terrain pack and the verdant mountains instead of Escarpments. Will make it look funky, but you could pull it off.
“Knightsbridge” from the Terrain pack is a simple straightforward game that introduces just a few new rules.

Winter:
“Red Barricades Factoty” adds snipers, Commisar and some new terrain, but is definitely worth looking into. Don’t be afraid to use those winter combat cards from winter wars for added flavor.

“Nach Moskau!” is phenomenal but adds a considerable amount of complexity. I think this is the next step up from the next step up. But s fun scenario nonetheless.

“Longvilly Trap” from Winter Wars plays much like the cure scenarios, but with winter rules. Check it out.

Forgot about this one. I also highly recommend it. Lots of road tiles to setup though. The scenario results show it tends to favor the allies though.

Exactly what I did until I got a Med expansion. Beda Fomm had the same issue - and still does with the road over hill tile.

Thanks friends!

I’ll take a look at these and give at least one of them a go on Sunday.
