So I backed Killer Eyelashes on KS because I liked the theme, and the artwork. I got 2 copies, one for myself, and one for my nephew. The rules are pretty disorganized, but that’s not what I’m here for. In looking through the cards, I was disturbed to see that all the butch dykes are characterized as enemies, who work for some organization that kidnaps infected queens and takes them to a ‘military experimentation camp.’

REALLY?!?!

That’s such an ugly depiction of lesbians, I can’t even...well, I’ll be honest, it’s not the first time I’ve been insulted and demeaned by gay men. But honestly, I thought we’d moved past that.

How do others feel about the representation in this game?

opinion, I have not...but I do like your mini painting and I'm envious of your Elder Sign/ Eldritch Horror collection.

laugh Most of which is still in shrink, because Eldritch Horror is just to darn big, too much of a table hog to get out. And I got distracted by other games this year, so haven’t opened any of the Elder Sign expansions. Tho’ I hear the Omens of XXX are all blind draw adventures, which I’m not a fan of. I do enjoy the base game, tho’.

Wow . . . that is not cool. shake We definitely do not need that kind of ugliness.

And as an aside - if you haven't cracked Gates of Arkham, you definitely should.

That’s what I hear! Maybe today...I’ve got a hankering for a little ES, and a rulebook that makes sense. I’ve had a run of bad rulebooks recently.

I realize I’ve made a stupid assumption in thinking the designers were gay. I have no idea their orientation. I kinda hope they are part of the community, because otherwise it gets seriously exploitive and all the other negatives.

There seems to be an attack your fellow players mechanic in this game as well...ugh, I don’t care for those. Which is really a shame, because I still love the artwork. cry

Does it also ignore that drag queens can be androgynous and butch and not necessarily all glammed up beacons of traditional femininity? So gender AND drag essentialist?

It’s pretty campy, but yeah, it’s pretty much the wig & evening dress types. There are some very hot boy toys as fans. It’s all pretty stereotypical cartoonish portrayals.

The designers are from Spain, and I don’t know where the LGBTQIA consciousness is there, but casting anyone in the community as an enemy is really regressive.

I mean, we do have actual enemies, we don’t need to cast each other in the role.

Oh yeah - masc, punky, and weird drag acts are pretty common. Female passing, high fashion drag is only a part of the drag scene (at least in the UK).

OK, being in my 60’s and living in a rural area, I’m really out of the loop on this. Could folks enlighten me a bit, so I don’t embarrass myself in mixed company. blush I came out in the ‘70’s, and as far as I knew then there was only the high queens, and the 50’s housewife queens. Pictures would be nice, if it’s not too much trouble.

Alas.

Sounds like another useful lesson that merely liking the theme or artwork does not mean that one will like a kickstarter game...

I remember when this one was running, and I got a weird feeling from it (moreso that it wouldn't be a "good" game more than the politics tbh). I'm sorry it was such a bust

I'm not super familiar with all the kinda of drag styles, but I think these music videos show a fairly big range:

(I love Dusty Ray Bottom's and Aja's videos the most, I think - 2nd and 6th vids!)

Well, that was fun, but I’d recognize all but maybe Aja as high queens (high production value fashion). What about the queens with the beards, mustaches, and evening gowns? What’s their tag (because my mind, being so acquainted with the stereotypical queens, just keeps saying “you’re doing it wrong!”

Which brings me to the question...what makes a queen, anyway? What’s the definition? Is it just the fashion sense?

It does, somewhat. Is masc drag the queens with the beards & mustaches?

That is a glorious collection of performers! Such art!
