From what I see in DDD it puzzles me that German mortar and artillery fire are not given their proper due compared with machine guns, minefields, booby traps, small arms fire, snipers and everything else excluding the proverbial kitchen sink. When these weapons even appear(which is seldom) they do no more than force the Allied player's unit to move out of its current area a little earlier than planned. I say that two dice for mortars and three dice for artillery(bigger weapons, heavier damage)should be rolled in much the same way as is done with the resolution of machine gun fire where rolling 6s gets the Germans extra damage benefits depending on what those are on the particular map being played.
