Recently I was playing the 4th stage of Grand Tour and we could not get new exhaustion cards.

What happens then? Nobody draws new exhaustion cards?

Thanks
Mario

not quite sure how this is possible.

The rules state that at the start of each stage half the exhaustion goes back into the pile, so there will always be as a minimum roughly half the exhaustion deck at the start of each stage.

Between Stages
● Between stages, riders do not discard all the exhaustion they received in the past stage. Half the exhaustion (rounded down) is put back in the exhaustion deck. I.e. each rider keeps half their exhaustion (rounded up), potentially starting the next stage a little worse for wear.

I guess the exhaustion cards are considered unlimited.
If you need more, then take the ones in the players discard piles.

Sounds like the 5th stage is going to be a real crowd pleaser!

Sounds like it is a good idea to start as forward as possible.

This has never happened to me, but in theory it’s not that unlikely if you’re playing with several human players and 1 solo team, and you’re playing “no discarding half exhaustion” between stages.

The exhaustion cards should be considered unlimited. I guess I would just note that a rider is owed an exhaustion card, and once one becomes available from someone playing one, put it in his recycle cards (or shuffled into his deck if he’s already shuffled since he was owed one). Not ideal, but better than just not taking exhaustion anymore.

When you play with only 2 players, each cyclist can get 8 cards after discard half exhaustion cards. For example, in the tour I am playing, in the beggining of 5th stage:

Red Sprinteur has 8 exhaustion cards
Red Rouleur has 7 exhaustion cards
Green Sprinteur has 8 exhaustion cards
Green Roleur has 8 exhaustion cards

Total 31 exhaustion cards.

There is 60 exhaustion cards (30 Sprinteur and 30 Roleur) so it is not difficult to see that is not possible to take more exhaustion cards when the runners are arriving the goal.

So, If I take exhaustion cards from the discard piles it is a good solution, but, in this case...

The red Sprinteur has 18 exhaustion cards and take 5 more from his discard pile. He has to discard half of his exhaustion cards.

How many cards he has to save?

18 / 2 = 9?

(18+5)/2 = 12 (rounded up)

Sorry my english, I hope I have explained well

18/2=9
The discarded exhaustion cards you should place in the exhaustion pile when used.

But when do you give a rider an exhaustion card?
18 + the 5 used ones sounds like a lot to me.
That's is 23 turns where he has a clear space in front of him........

The more riders you have on the stage, the less exhaustion cards you should draw, since slipstreaming comes in use more often and closes the gaps between riders.

Yes, it´s correct, but in the case I exposed, the four cyclist has 8+8+8+7=31 cards in the begining.

So there is 29 exhaustion cards for the 4 cyclist.

29/4 = 7 aprox for each cyclist.

With 2 players it´s perfectly possible to take 7 o more exhaustion cards.
