So in the base game i suppose every school is used.

But what happens when i want to use KS or expansions schools?

Will i have to switch some schools? (if yes with wich criteria)
Or do i simply add any i want?

Why wouldn’t you still use all the schools?

No idea…didn t find a KS setup guide
I guess maybe they were balanced to use just a fixed number to reduce randomness or maybe not…..

So i can simply add any school i want to the base ones?
Or do i add character schools and keep the Others out ?_? still confused.

It's in the (prototype) rules (for the core game), page 16:

Quote:
9 . Starting with the First Player, each Mage chooses their starting
Magic School (every Mage must have their own school and it is not
possible for two Mages to belong to the same school).
Each Mage has their own favorite Magic School, which is indicated in
the Codex Arcanum book, but a Mage is not required to select their
favorite school.
Then they choose their own Grimoire to start with. This choice is
made between the two availables on the Reference Cards of the
chosen School; select these spells from the Magic School according to
the Grimoire you chose. Add 1 of your Custom Spells to the chosen
Grimoire. Shuffle the remaining 2 in the chosen school.
(...)
11. Place the six decks of the Magic Schools near the board,
reachable by all players. Put the Reference Cards under the decks
to indicate the Magic schools (see below). The deck of the Forgotten
Spells should be set nearby; you will need it when the game enters the
Second Moon Phase.
These seven decks makes up the Library.
It doesn't really say how you decide which will see play, but logically it's at least every player's chosen school. I guess you could vote for the remaining ones to add (to total 6).

In a 4 player game ...
One per each mage's preferred school and then two random additional.

There are tarot-sized reference cards for each of the schools.
You could always shuffle those and deal out six if you want random ones or follow the procedure below and then shuffle the remaining Reference cards to choose the final two.

From the Rulebook, page 16:
8. Starting with the First Player (proceeding clockwise from there)
choose a Mage, take the matching miniature and Character sheet.
Choose a color ... to assign to your Mage and take all Damage/Instability Tokens, Protection and Trap Tokens, Rose Pins of the chosen color.

9. Starting with the First Player each Mage chooses their starting
Magic School (every Mage must have their own school and it is
not possible for two Mages to belong to the same school), then they
choose their own Grimoire to start with. This choice is made from
among those available (see: Reference Cards of the Magic Schools).
Each Mage has their own favorite Magic School, that is indicated in the
Arcane Archive book.

...

11. Place the six decks of the Magic Schools near the board,
reachable by all players. Put the Reference Cards under the decks
to indicate the Magic schools (see below). The deck of the Forgotten
Spells should be set nearby, you will need it when the game enters the
Second Moon Phase.
These seven decks make up the Library.

Hey there, that's exactly how it was mentioned.
-----------
1) you choose the mages first, the mages bring their preferred school with them
2) you shuffle the remaining tarots and then take out enough school to reach 6 schools in play
-----------
1) you can randomize mages and schools bearing in mind that some schools doesn't belong to some mages (it makes the game a little bit harder)
-----------
1) you can look at the sinergies of the schools in the codex and try to make them match to have a crazy match.
-----------
1) just decide with your friends what they like the most in terms of GamePlay

Ciao, Marco

Ah man ok, now I understand it.

I have to say Marco, the game is great, but there are sections of the Rule book that could have done with some better phrasing or deeper explanation.

Setting up the Library, starting schools and how you create your initial Grimoire is definitely one of those areas. For example I believe the initial set-up rules would have benefited by stating which Mage should take which school (i.e. the player who takes Rebecca starts with Necromancy - This just helps the first time players).

Then state that the player looks at the back of the "tarot" card and chooses their initial starting deck (A or B) and places those cards in their Grimoire section of the player board.

Place the left over school cards back into the library and Then shuffle all remaining school tarot cards and randomly deal them out until there are 6 schools in total within the library (placing the spells on top of the tarot card of the appropriate school).

Then as an Expert variant, say players may instead of taking their assigned school, may choose an alternative in player order, or may assign them randomly.
