Star can be played on a regular hexhex board as follows, provided you have stones in three colors: black and white stones to play with, a third color of stone to make the borders with.
Circle the outside of the board with the third color of stone, leaving alternating corners stone-free, as below:/pic4515709.jpg)
Note that this will produce an odd number of border stones, no matter the original size of the hexhex board.
Then play Star as normal. Each group of playing stones scores points as follows: # of border stones it touches, minus 2
