Which games you'd recommend where you explore foreign planets and build and develop a space colony?

Are there good games where you build colonies on several planets?

I'm curious to see the responses as I don't think there are any that fit this.

First thing that popped to my mind was the Master of Orion or Galactic Civilization video game series.

The only one I have a good experience of here is Terraforming Mars. Not so much exploration, but at least space colony building

Eclipse is amazing and has new version that should hit retail this year. It has exploration and colonization, but also technology trees, ship design, and combat. I love this game.

If you like a Star Trek theme, Star Trek: Fleet Captains has both exploration and the building of outposts and colonies. It's really a game about replicating the feel of Star Trek though, and is a bit pricey, so I wouldn't go there unless you're a fan.

Finally, Gaia Project has colonization as its theme, although there isn't really exploration. Also, it's a pretty heavy eurogame and the theme is a bit thin. Great game, though, if you like heavy eurogames.

SpaceCorp is a card driven engine-builder where you race to be the first to explore and colonize the planets and stars. This one is great because it is played on three different boards that expand in scope with your abilities.

Leaving Earth, especially with the Stations expansion, is about exploring the solar system, looking for life, setting up bases. The focus in this game is on calculating required thrust for payloads and realizing that to get anywhere your spaceship has to be 90% bomb.

High Frontier (Third Edition) is the granddaddy simulation for those who wish (or remember when) they worked at a space agency. The joke here is that learning to play earns you a college credit.

All of these are hard science.

All three above do indeed fit.

You play SpaceCorp if you want to focus on the expansion and base building.

You play Leaving Earth if you want to plan a space program for SF like it was in the 50s.

You play High Frontier if you want to design and run spaceships, look at the detailed working of factories, and want to see your ships get destroyed by cruel fate.

Thank you very much for your quick replies!

Eclipse is my favourite space game so far, however, there is no
real colony development.

I also own terraforming Mars, however, it's - as the name already
suggests - more about terraforming and not about colony development.

Space Corp, Project Gaia and Leaving Earth sound really interesting, so I'll defninitely check them out!

Empires of the Void II, maybe? It's more about conquests and alliances than colony development, but you might want to give it a try.

Merchant of Venus is largely space exploration and shipping, with a little colony building.

My favorite 18xx game for six players is two games of 1846 with three players each.

You do establish spaceports and factories in the various star systems. I'd consider that to be colony building. However, I agree that there is more focus on shipping goods from where they are produced to where they are in demand, and the colony building that there is supports that (the same is true for much of the historical colony building on Earth.)

Yes, I also own "Merchant of Venus" but I didn't have the opportunity yet to try it out.

It's long out of print, but thematically Strange New Worlds is pretty close to what you're describing.

Maybe Magnastorm might fit the bill for you? Technically you are setting up stations on a planet to extract resources but I hear it is very good.

Stellar Horizons should release in Q4 2019! I think this'll have its own place in the list of SpaceCorp, Leaving Earth and High Frontier mentioned above.

Trying to play darts after a 12 pack: It's fun until someone loses an eye. Then...it's hilarious, and probably an impending lawsuit.
