I’m unclear how Dogmeat’s ability (exhaust before a fight to ignore all enemy ability icons) works for creature with ranged ability. They attack from adjacent spaces. Does that happen as part of a fight? If so, does Dogmeat’s ability prevent them from attacking? Or does his just nullify their +1 hit advantage if you don’t have ranged yourself. Same question for enemies with “aggressive” ability. Thanks.

Before a fight. If it negates that fight... then no fight. Good dog.

According to reference fight was already initiated. "Before fight" means "before rolling VATS dice (rules reference) so it is after fight was initiated. So Dogmeat negate only enemy ranged icon for that fight and not the fight itself.
