I was looking at some pics from Essen (I think) and one really stuck out. I realize this is supposed to be a demo of a game with a ghost, but, um, ya. Really bad costume choice.

But it's got a happy face!

It's the new, kinder, gentler Ku Klux Klan...

Well, for the Germans, there would be no negative connotation to a figure in white with a pointed hood -- the Klan is a purely U.S. thing. And according to something I read just the other day, it is likely it would have been a forgotten relic of the past were it not for a re-surgence in identity that came from Birth of a Nation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Birth_of_a_Nation).

The white capirote doesn't have the same connotation in Europe that it has here in the US.

I realize that it doesn't have the same connotation in Germany as it does in the US, but it was a littel funny and shocking to see it.

Acctualy due to the influence of US culture, the extreme right wing has strong tie ins with the KKK and have adapted some uses from them... Not the dress... yet... But It wouldn't suprise me if somewhere some of them takes up that kind of clothes.

Actually due to the influence of European culture, we have extreme rightwing Neo Nazis who have adopted that distinct form of dress.

A friend has a picture of these guys from his trip to Europe, and he had them up on the screen in the office. My first comment was "KKK come in different colors? WTF?" (There are different colored uniforms for some reason or another. There were purple, orange and yellow ones (I think).)

Learning something new every day...
